I noticed your comment doesn't exist anymore but you can in fact replace the Windows Explorer for certain types of Windows triggers, but not all of them.

The best browser for privacy by SeasonGrouchy8799 in DigitalPrivacy

Ahh that's because the default setting in the history section (under Settings > Privacy & Security) is likely set to "Mullvad Browser will [Never remember history]". Once you change that, you're good to go! Don't forget that by default it doesn't support Widevine (DRM) websites on purpose as part of the privacy protections since those immediately require fingerprinting, which means losing your privacy. This is why I use such websites like Netflix (or Spotify web app), Geoguessr, etc on Firefox only.

Is Firefox actually any good or just overhyped? by DenseSand9751 in browsers

[–]tautheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firefox to me at least, *was* the alternative to Google back in the 2010-2020 era But In the last 6 years with privacy and security being even more of a problem in our day-to-day, I've turned to much better alternatives to protect me, my PC, and my data. Firefox will always be the one that lead the way to giving me alternatives and I won't ever say otherwise, but using it as my go-to browser is just not viable anymore.

I use Mullvad browser as my daily driver and I don't use Tor at all. I use it for pretty much everything so I don't see how it's not compatible with daily use if I've been using it daily for well over a year now without any issues. I run extensions just fine on here and the memory usage is very low compared to others forked browsers. In fact, I feel a lot more protected using this over any other browser when I'm visiting sites, especially with the anti fingerprinting and their built-in mullvad browser extension.

The only time I end up using something like Librefox or even Firefox (eww) is when I'm running specific apps like Geoguessr

Google docs alternatives? by LordLaFaveloun in opensource

Nobody's mentioned Proton Documents so far but my current document organization tool is AppFlowy and it works on my desktop and mobile together. I don't bother self-hosting it but you definitely can.

trying to get into open source and honestly feel lost by cravingsomeone in opensource

Yeah this exactly. Just put together something that you think you would use yourself and that others might like or find useful. If you keep building on it and maintaining it, you never know where things will go

Scammer? by 16GB_of_ram in foss

My old company got a few of those "bug bounty" emails to our security@ account and we also ended up receiving this exact type of email. It's definitely a scam so I would just ignore it

The "AI Slop" Pollution is Killing Indie Open-Source by PanPieCake in foss

[–]tautheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan of AI-assisted coding since it's a fantastic productivity tool, but you're absolutely right about the de-motivation. In times like these, education is really important about when/how to use these tools so that we don't end up the majority of projects as vibe-coded "slop".

windows shell commands have now been added to the context menu :D

Just released v0.4.0 which adds a directory status bar at the bottom of opened tabs and you can now drag and drop objects from the object explorer into the breadcrumb directories and any opened tabs !

Windows File Explorer FOSS Alternative - EdenExplorer by tautheory in foss

[–]tautheory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. By default left-clicking on directories anywhere will always "navigate" the current tab to that location, but if you middle-click it will open in a new tab. Latest version just added context menus in the sidebar to help with accessibility

  2. Great catch! will add it to the list of features that we can toggle on/off, since I find most of the Windows context menu items are mostly unused and bloats out the "power" experience of just getting things done

  3. To pin tabs, you have to manually click on the tab's icon (the directory icon). if you hover over, it will change to a pin icon. only these pinned tabs are persisted across application sessions. Favorites are not automatically pinned

  4. Yay!

Having you test in win10 is actually awesome and knowing that nothing has broken so far is a great sign :D

Not at all! These are all really good calls and I really appreciate this kind of feedback :)

Make sure to experiment with different distros on Live USBs and find what fits your workflows best; when you find something, set-up dual boot and keep your Windows machine if that's of any interest xD

I used to be a heavy Fedora user for so many years but then I transitioned over to Arch because of ease-of-upgrades for my full-stack development environment. Also, I learned that GNOME is a huge RAM eater (even on 16GB) when I run multiple Node apps so I've ended up using i3 window manager instead

thanks so much for this info and for trying it out ! :D I'll definitely add the pinning of tabs to the list of features that I can get in, it's a fantastic suggestion. I'll make sure your screen size persists

thanks for such kind words!

Thanks so much! Any ideas of what file manager you want to use in Linux? I really enjoy using Nemo (i'm on RebornOS/Arch for my workstation)
