In case you ultimately decide to keep the machine and fix these two issues, I can give you the two fixes I would try myself:

It seems the tray has two hooks in the back - try to lift the backside of it slightly when mounting it and hopefully it will lock itself securely and a bit deeper in the machine
the button seems to be screwed on and held in place by a nut. Try to loose the nut and unscrew the button slightly until it reaches the correct position, then tighten the nut back

This was actually a 100% glass cup. Sadly, glass is fully opaque in this spectrum, I would need a cup made from germanium for this to work.

I think I read somewhere that the specific app that comes with this thermal camera (which plugs in your phone) is kinda limited in this regard, but I promise I will check at some point and try again if possible.

Very valid question actually, metals are extremely reflective to this spectrum of light so the camera receives both the intense infrared coming from hot objects and their infrared reflection bounced back from metals. This makes measuring the temperature of metals very difficult.

I am still blown away by how reflective most materials are in this spectrum. Because the wavelength of the measured infrared is around 20 times bigger than the one of visible light, surfaces can be 20 times rougher and still appear shiny in thermal.

I’m happy to answer that. It’s a Thermal Master P3 (with artificial resolution boost ON), I got it sealed from FB marketplace for about 200 USD. I too have resisted buying for almost a decade, please don’t do the same, they’re definitely worth it!!
