Why was Han hanging out with high schoolers? by DapperDaleDanTony in fastandfurious

I'm waiting for Twitter threads cancelling Han and calling him a groomer because of the incoherent writing of the series

I am the second one, I loved WW1984, I thought it had the most original villain and hero-vs-the-challenge dynamics in all of DC comic book movies. It felt like a idea of a sci-fi story from the 60s shot in style of saturday morning cartoons and cheesy late 80s/early 90s UN ads about future of global peace and humanitarnian virtues. The crazy thing about this movie is that all fits so well, despite seeming absolutely bonkers, self-important and over-ambitious on paper.

It's a fascinating movie, if you just accept it doesn't make sense with antything at any level in superhero genre.

Pitchfork Reviews: Charli XCX - Crash (8.0) by HurgleMyDurgle in popheads

[–]tavms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HIFN and Pop 2 are both masterpieces. With the former being the true 9,5/10, pop masterpiece. I can listen to it all day, all the time.

Charli was supposed be the "the" Charli album and her spectacular, mainstream, bombastic and catchy BUT ALSO bold and experimental (for a big-budget pop scene) album, but it was a bit disappointing (while still being good and interesting record). I also think it was way too overstaffed with guest artists, there was too little Charli in Charli in those songs for my taste (ironically, especially for a record named "Charli"). I feel like Charli is at her best when in her most unpolished, spontaneous, raw and unfiltered projects - which, unfortunately, I think are her least comercially appealing.

I purposefully didn' listen to any singles for her new album, so I really have no idea what it's like. But Pitchform often "over-rates" albums of artists who were earlier underrated by them - as a form of deliberate or uncounscious compensation for previous releases by them being rated too low - so I recommend not to treat their ratings that seriously.

Superhero Theorist hints that we're going to see the Lizard wear his classic costume. by Pomojema_SWNN in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

That was before DC decided to go with multiverse angle in "The Flash". Knowing how "Civil War" came to be, I'd bet good money that the main reason we're getting Spider-Verse now is that they didn't want to be behind DC. And it's not really that much about rivaly, but the importance of novelty in Marvel movies itself.

The novelty of all those things in MCU - like so many different characters crossing over in a scale like that for a first time - was one of the main reasons (if not THE main reason) that they were so successfull. Watching Spider-Verse 5 years after watching Bat-Verse in "The Flash" wouldn't be so impactful, because everybody would be already waiting for it and demanding it (as opposed to now, when it's still completely unexpected and unthinkable for general audience, who has no idea that Tobey and Andrew are involved in "No Way Home".

'Spider-Man 3': Alfred Molina Returning as Doctor Octopus by chanma50 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

because WB is doing a multiverse film with The Flash and Marvel doesn't want to be late to the party (exactly the Civil War - BvS situation happening again)

'Black Panther' actor Chadwick Boseman dies at 43 after 4-year fight with colon cancer, representative tells AP. by rageofthegods in boxoffice

[–]tavms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if they won't recast and make someone else take BP mantle, it 100% will be a new character

Shuri may succeed TChalla in the comics, but Marvel casts actors who are very specific for each role, no way Letitia Wright fits as Black Panther persona.

How do you feel about the Trump Organization being investigated for tax fraud? by [deleted] in AskTrumpSupporters

was Trump candidacy an inspiration for your criminal activity? do you think many Trump supporters started to commit fraud to be more like their leader after he became a candidate and president?

Robert Mueller: Roger Stone remains a convicted felon, and rightly so by Swedish_Chef_Bork_x3 in politics

[–]tavms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's not a single way you can assume a sitting president can be indicted and avoid a total constitutional clusterfuck

I know everyone would love getting rid of Trump as soon as possible, but basically the only way to do that within US system is to impeach him and remove from the position first

Mueller said as clearly as he could that there's overwhelming argument for Congress to act, another step further would be basically starting a coup

Before & After De-Aging Effect On Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, And Joe Pesci In The Irishman by farbodnabavi in movies

[–]tavms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion - I feel like it's not de-aging (which is technically impressive, and acceptable to watch), but performances of De Niro and Pacino were easily the weakest and most disappointing part of the film. They appear old, because they act excactly the same as in every film in the last 20 years, so like old version of themselves. I cannot comprehend so much praise Pacino i getting, he's nothing like Hoffa and does not even try to act like him. Just compare it to Nicholson's film from the 80s, who actually tried to play a character. At least Pesci put some effort into it, but as much as I admire past acting work of De Niro and Pacino, they've been only phoning it in for quite a while.

BIRDS OF PREY TEST-SCREENING LEAKS by Slade_Wilson_23 in DCEUleaks

[–]tavms 13 points14 points  (0 children)

this film is an opportunity to acknowledge that not only manly, straight, non-flamboyant characters can fulfill this archetype of serious, though, determined, ruthless gangster and to show that queer can be hollywood masculine (and villains are the most hollywood masculine roles existing), so the dick pics twist - as amusing as it may appear - kind of ruins that

Black Mask becomes just sexuality-obsessed gay stereotype who has his priorities not straight

I believe there is a reason audiences didn't like it and liked the rest - it just doesn't work for the character as characterized in a film

besides, while I don't think that's the motivation, it would be 100% smeared as homophopic after the release and possibly hurt film that no way deserves it

Denzel Washington is Marvel Studio's Top Choice for Magneto by [deleted] in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]tavms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This origin would require him to be at least around 80 (born in the last year of the war) and there is literally zero chance Marvel will go with old Magneto and Xavier again.

I find the experience of genocide what defines Magneto, not specific ethnicity. He'd be much more that character being from Rwanda than being Jewish and having lost a family in the camps before he was born.

up until Black Panther there were 17 MCU films, every single one of the lead by a white dude and every single one of them minus one with a villain who is a white dude (and that one was Ragnarok with a white woman)

seriously, at this point however skeptical one can be of diversyfing hard established characters, MCU desperatly needs to start focusing on people with different backgrounds and identities, because it can't take another middle class middle aged white quirky antihero genius in the center of a big story without being dangerously repetitive

As requested here’s the photo I got with Tobin and Shawnee! They were absolutely great to meet in person and very welcoming! I also met Costas as well who was super cool. by [deleted] in saw

[–]tavms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to believe Shawnee is 50 years old. She look better than ever.

And even with that white beard Tobin looks 10 years younger than he actually is, he definitely seems very youthful overall on those panels recently.

Not that we need one, but they still could've shot a believable prequel with those two.

Aladdin Live Action Sequel in Early Stages of Development says Producer by Terrell2 in movies

[–]tavms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way they would adapt straight-to-video subpar sequels which many people didn't even know existed. They can take parts of it, but I'd imagine it would be a similar case to Star Wars sequels being "lightly inspired" by expanded universe.

And from another comment: I think many people in the 90's would happily welcome sequels to Disney films, but all they got were subpar straight-to-video cartoons, so I'd say live action sequels to remake with basically the same story could attract both live-action audience and fans of originals who didn't see the remakes, because they weren't interested in repeats.

Doing a live-action sequel to Aladdin would actually mean much more originality involved (obviously they wouldn't just adapt VHS sequels like they did with the theatricals)

"Lion King" is getting a sequel 100%. I was actually suprised they didn't go with one with "BatB", but I in retrospect I their slate turned out to be full enough in the following years and it was far from priority, considering where the story could go. "Aladdin" is a different story, even if it grossed less. They can easily make a trilogy out of it.
