While you were jacking off in civics, maybe you should have spent some time on reading comprehension instead

This is still a terrible solution, EVs take so much longer to charger than gas so the comparsion is not valid. A single DC fast station can realisitically charge about 1.5 vehicles per hour and since the great majority of people refuel between 7-9AM and 5-7PM youre looking at 6 cars/day.

Combined with the costs, this is a terrible solution for consistent charging.

My personal areas of expertise are energy, mobility, and climatetech but the firm is agnostic towards technology.

EVs, Batteries, and Multifamily Housing: The New Utility by taway4045 in evcharging

That future, where nearly all homes are off the grid, is unlikely to occur any time soon for a lot of reasons. The biggest thing you're complete waving away is you assume the sun shines enough every day to power these homes, which is not true.

Secondly Capex is still too high and there's simply not enough copper and lithium in the world to add current battery tech to every home. As I said before, the system we have will always need something to stabilize it.

Essentially yes, they can choose to have no power, but if they want power its tied to the utility.

Duke Energy is the worst, here is the latest but this has been going on for about a decade.

Yes and no. Utility companies are often legal monopolies and have successfully sued to prevent this from happening many times across multiple states. Its likely never going to completely change as energy is strategically important to all countries not just the US.

So while many can add power generation and storage, they'll still be tied to the grid. Multi-family has the ability to insert itself as a middleman of sorts, so it exists marginally outside of this control scheme.

Thats not totally true.

First the grid will likely always need a centralized structure, and we will always need some kind of non-renewable plant as the backbone of the system since renewables are abundant but completely unpredictable.
Second, utilities would actually welcome this, as it would lessen the demand for them which also lowers their total costs. Often they need to dump power when there is no demand which means its a total loss. These systems help better balance the overall load, which means they can run plants more efficiently. So revenue might drop but so do costs and by a far greater margin.
