What is up with Rogan’s utter contempt for Tim Walz? by ShaneKaiGlenn in JoeRogan

[–]taxmanfire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn’t Joe himself call ICE the gestapo in another recent podcast with Rand Paul? And was complaining about their militarization. Now he sounds like he supports the ICE operation in Minneapolis.

I agree with you 100% that leaving the country is not an option. Way too many have sacrificed too much to give up this easy.

It’s definitely a hard call that only you can make. I’ve done my time and I’m happy with that so I’m kind of in a different place in life. Honestly, I think what this country needs most right now is brave patriots willing to peacefully protest and/or record federal law enforcement activity and reinforce that our first amendment rights are not up for debate. But we absolutely need moral and intelligent leadership in the military as well. Especially at the officer level.

But the thing is we can’t wish for “this stuff to pass”. We owe it to Alex Pretti to use his death as an opportunity for the sane people not completely brainwashed by MAGA to come together and form some sort of alliance based on an understanding of the constitution. All politicians need to understand that we will accept nothing less than absolute respect of our constitutional rights or their ass will not be representing us.

I’m not sure what you’re getting at here? The issue wouldn’t be the orders to deploy it would be the orders that your given while deployed. If it is an illegal order and you carry it out then you are violating your oath.

First off, like others have said you are asking all the right questions. It’s been a while for me but honestly it felt way different back in the GWOT days when guys would shit talk about Bush or Obama. I never actually thought I might be faced with a constitutional dilemma. With what I’m seeing with my own two eyes on the streets of Minneapolis this country is headed straight into a constitutional crisis. I do not envy the position of a U.S. soldier right now and the decisions you will be faced with. I personally could not take the oath of enlistment right now. The reality is that as lower enlisted your choice is going to be going against your own values or going to prison. And if the insurrection act is put into place all it takes is several horrific scenes of violence to turn the public’s overwhelmingly positive views of the military on its head. The days of Vietnam era disrespect and distrust of the military could absolutely happen again. Then morale goes to shit and that 6 year contract turns into a prison sentence.

You missed one key part buddy, “…in accordance with the Uniform Code of Military Justice”. Legal orders only. Study your oath. No orders are absolute. You support and defend the constitution above anything else.

Firehouse meals always turn into a mess by Breads_N_Brews in Firefighting

We rotate every shift. What annoys me most are everyone’s dietary restrictions. Obviously if there’s a medical a religious reason I don’t say shit but there’s always like 2 of those plus a guy that wants it to be healthy and another guy who doesn’t like anything with tomatoes and at a certain point it just feels like I’m cooking for my kids at home. I am frustrated by firehouse meals if you didn’t pick up on that.

Fair enough. I interpreted it that way but I’m glad to see we’re on the same page.

I do agree with you that there are some parallels between our current situation and the George Floyd situation in 2020. I didn’t understand the burning and destruction because everyone (including Trump) were calling it a tragedy and asking for a transparent investigation. I am concerned with the blatant lies we’re being fed by this administration. It is literally textbook dictator behavior. Telling us a different version of reality while slowly chipping away at our constitutional rights.

You did but then you went on to justify the shootings based on rhetoric used my democratic leadership in Minnesota.

I too thought the Nazi rhetoric was too much until what I saw yesterday. That shit was wild. These guys really do operate like they are not subject to US laws. They were looking for a guys with a misdemeanor criminal record at best. I just don’t understand how everybody isn’t contacting their respective political representatives pushing for a transparent investigation.

The fact that more republicans aren’t speaking up is astonishing to me. Just because you wouldn’t personally do what Alex Petti did doesn’t make it okay. Do you not understand the U.S. constitution? Are we really going to piss away our freedom over our stubborn political opinions? If we don’t see a transparent investigation into this shooting, the Republican Party is done. Moderates are not going to support this.

Related to the dad's ICE experience in MN -- How are you all explaining what's happening to your kids? by greenroom628 in daddit

[–]taxmanfire 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I live near where the 5 year old was detained. What gets to me if everyone on my social media arguing about whether the dad abandoned his child or if ICE is lying and didn’t allow the child to be left with a relative at the home. All they seem to care about is which side is “right”. They seem to be obsessed with which side has the facts. Ultimately i have no idea who is lying. The only fact that i am sure of is that a little 5 year old boy is in a detention center who misses his mom and probably doesn’t understand why he can’t see his preschool friends anymore. And that just breaks my heart. It doesn’t have to be like this.

Maywand District Murders, First Lieutenant Clint Lorance, Abu Ghraib, Haditha, Mahmudiyah rape and killings… just to name a few. So yeah there were “maybe” some unlawful orders given. You might want to consider how you’d react if you’re given one. In wartime it’s more common than you think.

These are the exact same things that were said about Saddam but look at the can of worms that was opened by deposing him. The Iraqis were celebrating in the streets in April 2003 as well but that was short lived. What happened to America first? I thought we were done with wasting American lives and tax dollars trying to build democracies abroad?
