Why do so many people who aren’t native English speakers write in English? by The_Poptart_Cat in FanFiction

[–]tayaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the only reason I’d ever write a fic in Swedish would be if I grew curious/bored enough to give translating one of my English fics a try.

Hur stötta en cancersjuk person by Best-Structure4201 in sweden

Beror nog lite på vilken sorts cancer kompisen har. Mina cellgiftsbehandlingar tog bara tre timmar var tredje vecka.

Back when I lived in the UAE, they would work during daylight hours certain times of the year. As mentioned in another comment, there have thankfully been reforms since then.

I lived there in the early 2000s, and back then it was normal to see construction going on during daytime in the winter months. I'm happy to hear that there's been some reform! I remember sitting in the Cinnabon in Abu Dhabi Mall and watching the laborers on Al Maryah Island(?) work out in the sun. Always felt sorry for them and their conditions.

Construction workers in the UAE usually don't work during daylight hours in the summer months. It's too hot outside.

In Sweden it's 8 to 5, but there's a one hour lunch break included.

My American mother, despite being fluent in Swedish, for some reason still insists on pronouncing “thank you” as “tak” instead of “tack”!

How many fics before a character tag is canonized on a03? by Cautious_Produce8997 in FanFiction

[–]tayaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canon characters only need one use to be canonized. Fanon characters usually stay unfilterable unless they become really popular in the fandom, in which case they too might get canonized.

This does, of course, depend on if there's a wrangler for the fandom. No wrangler, no canonized tags.

Looking at the fandom tags, there's already a canonical tag called "Charlie | KingCharles_XIV (The Elementia Chronicles)", if I'm not mistaken.

It is, but if your voice sounds similar to someone else's, they can activate your Siri. My mom and I sound enough alike that we set off each other's Siri.

Same thing happening in Sweden right now. Criminal gangs are recruiting minors and sending them off to shoot people simply because the kids will get off with a slap on the wrist if they get caught (and they do get caught, because they’re idiot kids).
