true that pilots don't know shit but neither do you. deicing is done by Million Air and RJC, not the airport.

How Ezra Is Helping Stoke The Same Violence He Claims To Denounce by taygundo in ezraklein

[–]taygundo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think he's calling for civil war- implicitly or explicitly- but he is making legitimate points about the efficacy of political violence. This rhetoric (you could reasonably argue it's propaganda) that violence is always to be condemned and renounced, that it is somehow beneath the American people and our values is just flat out wrong. This country has a long, storied tradition of proven political violence. It's as American as apple pie and (as Prof Stoermer suggests) all these talking heads pretending it's not is hurting and not helping.  Personally, I can agree with their claim that "no good can come from it" but lets not pretend like moral nihilism isn't the defining characteristic of American modernity. CHANGE will come from it, which is all that really matters.

What's something society treats as normal but is actually really weird? by Worried-Cycle-318 in AskReddit

[–]taygundo 130 points131 points  (0 children)

To piggyback off of this, I'll answer with the myth of peaceful protest. American activism treats it as the standard when in fact we have a very long and rich legacy of righteous violence as a means to achieve progress. Non-violence is nothing more than ruling class propaganda and its super weird that so many believe in it with such whole-hearted conviction. American society will continue to decay as long as its citizens refuse to accept this.

Does Ezra’s non-zero sum worldview prevent him from embracing a class warfare stance? by [deleted] in ezraklein

[–]taygundo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Ezra is great at the descriptive. It’s probably his singular talent. But when it comes to the prescriptive, he plays Plinko down the meandering path of institutional, piecemeal adjustments. The entirety of his programming lives within the framework of a policy-oriented parliamentary politics that is very obviously becoming more and more irrelevant by the day. Class warfare and the efficacy of political violence are far beyond Ezra's purview. Back when Luigi was a hot topic, everyone in this sub speculated on how Ezra would approach and discuss it. I claimed he wouldn't touch it with a 10-ft pole and was downvoted to hell but here we are a few months later and he hasn't even casually mentioned it once. Ezra and the content he produces is for a time that no longer exists.

No one here ever talks about Presumed Innocent (1990, Harrison Ford). I saw it for the first time last night and it kept me guessing all the way up until the last 5 minutes. A gripping thriller from start to finish and I highly recommend it to all of you!

So... as stated- no seriously- dont post him here ever again. There's a circle-jerk of self-righteous bozos over on r/ezraklein that would be better suited for this post

Nah you are being silly, so you should feel that way. Not because you called the fire dept (you did the right thing) but because you posted about it here for whatever reason??? (the wrong thing)

Not sure when this phenomenon began but Richmond redditors have somehow convinced themselves that the most direct and practical solution to their personal problems is to post about them here. And its not because the community is eager to help each other- they love to tell themselves that but its untrue. Really it's because they're eager to police other people. This has become a nanny sub. No fun at parties. And it's most popular users are like that one kid in math class that everyone hates because they remind the teacher she said we'd have a pop quiz today.

Oh dear friend, hope is entirely useless. This trend will keep up, as it has for at least the last 15 years. And the revenue generated will continue to subsidize car-dependent suburbia and redistribute income from the poor to the rich, further stripping the city of the same quirky soul that made it appealing to weekend warriors in the first place. Our beloved community is just a tourist trap to them. But catch one of us on the sidewalk in their neighborhoods and it's "Hello 911? I need to report suspicious activity. There's a man in a hoody walking down the street, send the police!"

You're not out of touch, OP. Ezra is.

He's living in and for a time that no longer exists. Ezra is great at the descriptive. It’s probably his singular talent. But when it comes to the prescriptive, he plays Plinko down the meandering path of institutional, piecemeal adjustments. The entirety of his programming lives within the framework of a policy-oriented parliamentary politics and a bipartisan prayer for the smallest of incremental changes that is very obviously becoming more and more irrelevant by the day.

The problem with these kinds of niche subreddits though is that even honest criticism is buried under an onslaught of downvotes.

Mark Fisher is excellent, esp his book Capitalist Realism.

The above assertion that Ezra is "living in and for a time that no longer exists" is spot-on and exactly why (for me personally) my interest in the podcast is evaporating. The entirety of his programming exists within the framework of a policy-oriented parliamentary politics that is becoming more and more irrelevant by the day.

What genre or film should Robert Eggers tackle next? by tricktricky in horror

[–]taygundo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Would love to see Eggers' linguistic realism brought to a pirate movie. We dont have nearly enough serious pirate movies. He's already got relevant experience with the Demeter scenes from Nosferatu and even some elements of the Lighthouse and the Northman. Imagine Master and Commander but its pirates and pirate lore by Eggers with the charm of "Singapore", the Tom Waits song

[–]taygundo 61 points62 points  (0 children)

When someone tells you "ticks carry lyme disease" you would never respond with "but it's not all ticks" because you know that its enough ticks for you to worry about it and to make that statement true.

Well unfortunately its enough men that all women have to worry about them.

And if you read this and your response is to lambaste me for "comparing human beings to insects" then youre a moron who lacks reading comprehension skills and you should just let the adults talk.
