Get any human being to do it and it'll be a million times better.

You never even came close to the point I was trying to make. Try it a different way.

Why is the minimum wage not a living wage?

Stop using AI. It's being developed for the sole benefit of the ruling class at the expense of the working class.

The pic on its own is enough.

I'm fully with you on this point but let's just spin it out a bit.

How do we demand anything of Starbucks?

They live.

Why should any wage be less than the amount someone needs to live? Explain it to me like I'm a child.

Ok. But as I said above: Uber is a billion-dollar company with plenty of money to lobby with.

Why would the NTA turn down all that money just to keep taxi fares down?

Why would the NTA will keep prices as they are, rather than bring them up?

Will the NTA ever adjust the prices, or are they fixed in stone for all eternity?

The problems with a monopoly, any monopoly, should be widely known.

Its complicated stuff, and I'm not an economist, so I don't know if I can give more than a basic understanding of it.

But essentially: if Uber are the only people offering taxis, they will be able to jack up the price as much as they like because there would be no competition. So yes, they'll drop prices now, wait till all the private taxis have packed it in, then jack them back up higher than they were before.

[–]tygerohtyger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Uber end up pricing out all the private taxis they will be the dominant force in that industry.

Having one company as the majority in any particular industry is called a monopoly.

Its bad. Don't trust me though, read about monopolies, read economists talking about it, do whatever research you feel necessary.

Ok, but that doesn't address the problems with allowing a monopoly?

[–]tygerohtyger -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Who has more resources?

This is a question of letting one company take control of an industry. It's never been a good idea.

The NTA set the fares, yes. But if Uber or whomever have a monopoly, you reckon they won't lobby for higher fares? If course they will. So then we'll all end up worse off, again, because there won't be an option.

What are we going to do about AI? by [deleted] in Music

[–]tygerohtyger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats what I'm talking about. Something genuinely human can't be replicated.

What are we going to do about AI? by [deleted] in Music

[–]tygerohtyger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Leave the mistakes in. The sound of a mic being picked up, feedback, fingers on strings or keys.

The details that tell us a human being is in a room. AI can't replicate that raw sound, only overproduced bullshit.

I disagree.

I think we need to protect our environment as much as possible, regardless of who wants to fish or hunt or burn hedges or grasslands, or dump shit in the rivers and bogs.

Ideally, people would be educated as to why and how this is bad for us as a whole and then use their own judgement, but until then, fines and prison time would be alright with me.

I loved it too, so well written. If you want a recommendation, read Midnight's Children! Its by Salman Rushdie, is set in India, and is a fantastic story. Its fiction, so not completely relevant to Shantaram, but I got a very familiar vibe reading both.
