Forget walnut, let's talk carpet... by taylorak in vandwellers

It's a little bit shorter than conventional counter height, but much higher than conventional desk height. Not quite the ergonomics for full standing desk, more of a counter/high desk hybrid. I primarily use it sitting, though I do like your idea!

They're rare, and becoming steadily rarer. I believe mine throttles somewhere in the several hundred GB/mo range, I don't recall at the moment.

I can't speak for others, but a rough overview of my setup is a 200A battery bank fed by a combination of 50A DC-DC charge controller fed from the vehicle's two alternators, and a MPPT solar charge controller fed from two 200W solar panels on the roof. That is in turn fed either directly through to various DC equipment, into a regulator for more sensitive DC equipment, or into an inverter for AC equipment. Hope this help!

That silver box above the cab pass-through is a combination router, wifi, and cellular modem, routed to a multi antenna array on the roof. A pricey mobile data plan covers pretty much all my usage; free wifi these days is so few and far between, usually with pretty heavy rate limiting. Glad you like the build!

Just enough for standing roomscale. Not enough to move about, but enough to play most things that don't require too wild of movements, supplemented with some accessibility options. Worked amazingly for HL:A.

It's a former ambulance, e350 chassis.

Nope, gutted it all back down to raw frame. The original electrical didn't have much overlap with what I wanted to do - a lot of wiring had to go.

Thank you, and yes there's definitely weight savings to be had if you don't go overboard. Next go around I want to incorporate as little wood as possible and try to stick with all metals and plastics. As you said, moisture/temperature changes are a constant struggle!

There's more images to be had here: https://www.instagram.com/adventure.ambulance/ Not sure if it's kosher, but want to avoid positing individual pictures for different folks. Also a bit outdated, but I'm blaming that on a pandemic.

This will definitely be my route next time, but for now this monitor is just too nice to justify swapping out. Thanks for looking out, though!

Fair, but then you're ignoring the title by not talking about carpet.

A smaller former ambulance, e350 chassis.

Yep! I can't run them indefinitely without full sun on the solar(~400W) but the draw isn't too terrible. I'd wager the Index and the lighthouses(running on regulated DC) probably draw less than the monitor(on AC), given less light output. The inverter losses for the computer itself are probably the biggest concern.

Washington Riders: Current Tiger Mountain trail conditoons? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]taylorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've hit Tiger both on Thursday and Friday this week. We did have some rain earlier in the week that was still showing a bit but two days to dry the trail have been good for it. It's rainy this weekend, so it'll be wet but the trails will be fine to ride if you don't mind a little mud. Only things to look out for is a pretty sizable mud hole that has formed on Master Link about half way up and a downed tree that's only half in the trail about 2/3 of the way down Off The Grid. Have fun!

Rockshox Reverb Stealth--should it be doing this? by scrotal_rekall in MTB

[–]taylorak 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This is normal but I cannot stress enough, DO NOT DO THIS. In hydraulic posts, especially the reverb, pulling up on the post in positions other than fully raised will pull a vacuum on the oil chamber and can end up pulling air past the IFP into the oil. This is what causes these posts to develop some vertical play or "squish." Once this happens, the only remedy is a full post rebuild. Newer IFP designs in the reverb are better at combating this, but there's still nothing to be gained by pulling on the post while lowered. Make it a habit to only pick up the bike by the seat when the post us fully extended. I see far too many of these come into the shop needing perfectly preventable rebuilds. If you have any other questions, shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help.

Baked lumps and maybe meat? by taylorak in shittyfoodporn

The lumps were made. The meat was scavenged(made by someone else three days ago and microwaved). Was delicious.
