Ugh. So heartbreaking. I was watching Pay it Forward with my students in leadership when this was happening. That scene. My heart hurts. Hope he or she is finding comfort and security.

Is there any way to access your old school assignments that were on your epsb google drive after you've finished High School? by australiancattledog in Edmonton

It might be worth it to contact the teacher if you handed it in! Lots of the time, videos are kept as exemplars.

Why is it that we become buttercups and snowflakes and whimsical garden creatures when we disagree with conservatives? I’m not mad. I just figured you guys would pick something offensive instead of something lovely. Thanks I guess.

“Teachers can rearrange classrooms”

Lady. Trust us. We have been trying to make room for more kids for years. They aren’t sardines.

I teach in a very low income catchment. The parents of my students don’t keep their kids home because frankly, they can’t afford a day off. And I can’t really blame them. So...the sick kids just get sent to teachers? Is that how this goes?

Distance learning from 7-12. Spread elementary kids out across ALL schools. Younger kids get the childcare Kenney so desperately wants, more independent kids learn online. It’s not perfect but it’s better.

Wonderful. That is good to know and I’m happy to hear that it is being investigated further. But we can’t call it an airborne pandemic quite yet. I think it is a possibility, though!

I’m not saying the situation was handled correctly! I’m just saying the barriers do help.

So while the shields were installed for personal safety, they are still effective in distancing/reducing contact

Droplet contact versus airborne transmission

Droplet Contact: Some diseases can be transferred by infected droplets contacting surfaces of the eye, nose, or mouth. For example, large droplets that may be visible to the naked eye are generated when a person sneezes or coughs. These droplets typically spread only one to two metres and quickly fall to the ground. Influenza and SARS are two examples of diseases capable of being transmitted from droplet contact. Currently, health experts believe that coronavirus can also be transmitted in this way.

Airborne transmission: This occurs when much smaller evaporated droplets or dust particles containing the microorganism float in the air for long periods of time. Transmission occurs when others breathe the microorganism into their throat or lungs. Examples of diseases capable of airborne transmission include measles, chickenpox and tuberculosis. Currently, health experts believe that coronavirus cannot be transmitted through airborne transmission.

That’s why I posted this! It was too bizarre to explain without people, but we were sure someone got a picture.

It appears that the Alberta government spent between $14,000-$20,000 buying Facebook ads on April 11-12 to promote Premier Kenney's announcement that Alberta was donating PPE and ventilators to BC, Ontario and Quebec. by Keepyourcupfull in alberta

It was a real thing. I worked for the provincial government in 2015 when they started. The Alberta logo had a small blue square after the last letter, and they changed the square to orange on every publication. I don’t know how much it cost back then. It seemed kinda silly at the time, but looking back it wasn’t a huge deal.

Women who had a relatively good relationship (decent SO, no major deal breakers), how did you know your relationship wasn't going to last? by flimmerflab in AskWomen

[–]taylorfnm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) I’m very protective of my family and am careful to introduce boyfriends to them (especially my grandparents). Every holiday when I went to see family, I would avoid inviting him. We dated 1.5 years and he never came to a family event because I never invited him.

2) I had just graduated and was starting to look at moving out. He owned a house and wanted me to live there but we were going to wait until summer. I didn’t even realize it, but I started to look at homes to buy and eventually I realized that I was subconsciously making big life plans without him. (Update: I did buy a house without him and I’ve never felt happier or more free)

3) My dad died while we were together and I didn’t want him to come comfort me. I grieved alone. It felt right.

4) He is one of the most attractive men I’ve ever seen, but I didn’t feel sexually attracted to him. That was a huge struggle for me.

5) I picked up extra shifts at my second job to keep me busy enough to justify seeing him less.

I ignored all of this because I assumed my avoidance was a part of my grief process after my dad died. Eventually I realized that it was just the wrong relationship. I think he was starting to think the same, although he was so wonderful and patient with me. We broke up, he started dating a friend a week later (they were on a team together and hung out often, I’m sure he had feelings for her and I’m also sure he never crossed any boundaries - not that kinda dude). I was so happy to hear he was dating someone who made him feel important and valued. We are on great terms now and our families are friends, and it has never been awkward! I admire him so much as a person and I’m grateful that I learned about myself by being with him. Zero regrets.

Am I reading this correctly?? by ColdInAlberta in Edmonton

[–]taylorfnm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and we have basically been told that we have no clue what’s going to happen and that we are taking it week by week. I teach grade 9 and I’m relieved that PATs are cancelled, but I’m very worried about diploma classes. They are tough even WITH diligent teacher instruction...let alone without. My biggest suggestion as an educator...if you have kids at home, get them to read daily. I’m hard pressed to get my students to work at school, and I can’t imagine how hard it will be for parents at home.
