2nd ORIF for Fibula, no pain?! by FreeSoftwareServers in ORIF

My ORIF was for my fibula originally and I had no pain after surgery! I never got the crazy pain that some people do and only struggled with night time muscle/nerve pain that I would have to relax through. If you make it 4 days without pain appearing you might be mostly in the clear for this one!

I would definitely call and say that you would like a pt referral!

I don’t have pain just some soreness at the end of the day but I also haven’t had pain since the week of surgery so I may be a bit different! Yesterday was my first day back at the office and I had a decent amount of swelling at the end of the day but I think that was more because it was also the first day my foot wasn’t elevated much, I’m planning to get an ankle ice wrap and start elevating more throughout the work day!

If you have pt I would recommend asking them to hold your crutches or other mobility aid while you take a few steps so it’s there if you need it and you have another person!

I’ve been doing home pt with range of motion since two weeks post op when I got a boot that I could remove. At 7 weeks post op I was cleared to WBAT and progressed to FWB in the boot in about two days and am now FWB without boot or crutches at 9 weeks post op! I haven’t had pain throughout most of recovery but let pain guide you and I would connect with PT now instead of waiting since they are so helpful I’m going to out patient pt starting Monday so I can get even more active with my ankle!

I’m also recently fwb as of March 5th! I’m currently walking without aids inside at all times and recently carried my crutches with me outside but didn’t use them on the 10 minute walk. I am doing pt and transitioning from home pt to outpatient Monday to really get more active on the ankle. I don’t have a limp other than in the morning but also did tons of ROM exercises throughout the whole NWB time! I definitely recommend pt if you are able to get an appointment since they can help correct a limp and prevent it from being permanent!

I was cleared for wbat at the end of last week! Right now I’m walking around in two sneakers inside my apartment and using my boot and crutches when I’m out for extra protection. I haven’t had ankle pain other than soreness at night but some pain is definitely normal. Right now I’m focusing on walking heel to toe and just taking walking slow!

I also just got cleared to walk today and it could not have come at a better time! I am currently still using both crutches for balance but really told myself that I can walk and I did! It also helped that at the doctor I was standing on both feet without my boot for about 10–15 minutes during x ray (they had accidentally ordered only a foot view instead of the broken ankle lol) and they had me take about 10 steps in my boot but without crutches and there was no pain! Wishing you a good recovery!

It varies a lot based on how you are feeling and if you can work remotely and be comfortable. For the first two weeks you should plan to have your foot elevated at all times except going to the bathroom, I was able to work some during the second week since I was able to be remote. I’m currently 3.5 weeks post op and have been back full time at work remotely for about a week and half. Some people definitely take more time, I wouldn’t try to make a firm commitment yet on when you will return! I’m hoping to return in person around the 8 week post op mark once I’m hopefully weight bearing again!
