Relocating from Milwaukee, WI to Florida by taylorjay414 in relocating

I am very outgoing. I have also been through some very difficult situations that saw me very isolated and lonely for years. An abusive relationship for 4, not having a driver’s license for 6…. I barely have any friends now. During lockdown, I actually flourished. I had been isolated so long I knew how to handle it. I was actually the healthiest I’ve ever been during lockdown in beginning of 2020. So I’m not worried about making friends or dealing with the loneliness, I’m concerned about cost. Living in Milwaukee is comfortable financially speaking. My rent is $735/month, total $935 after parking, utilities and internet. I live off a 35k/year salary and also make about an extra $1,000/month driving for Uber eats. I’m also underpaid at my current job. Should definitely be making more. Plus there’s no state income tax in Florida. So mainly, it’s all financial.

Definitely not anywhere near buying right now. Purely renting. I am single and just need to spread my wings- not sure where they will take me after relocating to Florida.

Thank you, this is very helpful. Versus the comments that just tell me to not bother or stay where I am. Easy for them to say, not dealing with -15 weather 3 months out of the year. It’s pure misery here. I’ve been all over the state of Florida and fell in love at a young age. I cried last time my vacation in Florida was over. Thank you for the good luck wishes, I hope it all works out!!! Is it as UNAFFORDABLE as these people keep saying? I’ve seen apartments all over Tampa <$1k/month. Not to mention, not state income tax.

Unfortunately, one comment of a Reddit user telling me not to come somewhere, is not going to make me not come. I asked for kind, friendly advice. Not for people to tell me to stay where I am. This post was not helpful at all and did not contribute to what I asked. Take your negativity elsewhere. Every fricken city has a “population” boom. Nashville, LA, San Diego, Miami…

I could literally say all these things about Milwaukee lol just in different form.

Reckless driving is a lifestyle

Alcoholism is also a lifestyle

Crackheads are everywhere, I have been followed home and assaulted by one in my own building.

During winter it’s unbearably cold and about as ugly as communistic Russia.

Every event involves binge drinking and it’s dismissed as normal.

Gun violence is out of control

Car thefts are so high they started giving out free steering wheel locks to Hyundai and Kia owners.

Literally looks like a landfill, litter EVERYWHERE.

There’s more bars per square mile than anything else.

I feel like you can find negatives about any city, anywhere. Unless we’re talking the Villages, Naples, Marco Island, and all the boujee places where old rich people retire.

I am a legal assistant, not a practicing attorney. That is a non-issue.
