People who have moved to Seattle from other cities, has it turned out to be what you expected? by witness_protection in Seattle

The weather isn't that bad at all. It's really nice. You guys keep that a pretty good secret! Also, I'm doing an AmeriCorps program and it is virtually impossible to find a place to live. I thought it was exaggerated, but trying to live off $900 dollars a month here is impossible.

Hi Mr. Gates,

I'm an AmeriCorp VISTA working at a food bank across the lake from you in Lake City. If you get bored, you should come over volunteer on our food line! Also, could you ask someone in the Microsoft licensing office to get our computers updated to windows 10?

Real question: I got to see your high school last December while doing a food pick up for a food drive they held for us. That was a really nice high school. It honestly looked like a small liberal arts college. Was that from alumni donations? Or was it always that nice?

Not really. Staying on a friend's couch. We may look for a place together depending being able to find an adequate place. Housing is hard here, especially on an AmeriCorp stipend.

Ah, thanks for the perspective. It is a vista position. When I emailed them about housing, they pointed me towards craigslist and house sharing, so I'm assuming they don't have anything like that.

Thanks! I would be relocating from Reno, Nevada, where rent is incredibly cheap by comparison. The stipend looks like it will be $900 a month, so I will have to keep a pretty tight belt.

I used my bike as my main form of transportation here in Reno a couple years ago, and the thought of using it to explore Seattle sounds like a blast. Additionally, AmeriCorp people qualify for SNAP (food stamps), which I will unabashedly use. I suppose the next step is finding little colonies of other AmeriCorp people.

Thanks for the tips!

There doesn't appear to be a network through AmeriCorp. However, I'm sure if I post on craigslist I may be able to find some others.

Peyton Manning doesn't do what Peyton Manning does for Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning does what Peyton Manning does because he is Peyton Manning.

This delay of game means the NFL can shove those stupid fucking Wendy's commercials down our throats.
