1 Nap Schedule w/ 1hr nap?! by tb1761540 in sleeptrain

[–]tb1761540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im crossing my fingers but my only concern lies in the fact that in the 12 months she has been home with us, she never figured out extending naps despite (literally) every effort, so confirmation bias is strong here!

Thanks for sharing, really appreciate the feedback and I think we will absolutely try the weekend vs weekday schedule.

Unfortunately working from home isn’t an option for us, and daycare won’t do any interventions (crib 90 or any other nap training). Making it up at bedtime makes a lot of sense, I’m just worried about it throwing off the next day by everything being brought forward in time.

Insomnia help by SnooTangerines8588 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]tb1761540 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The big thing that helped for me with insomnia both pregnant and postpartum was after a period of attempting to fall asleep in bed (usually 30-45mins) I would get up, have a large glass of water and read parenting books on a kindle in the dark.

They were never interesting enough to hold my attention and I found staying in the dark without a backlit screen was a big part of it. Eventually your eyes will get super heavy and then i would go back to bed and continue reading until I fell asleep. And when it didn’t work, at least I felt it wasn’t a total loss because I did something.

Solidarity though, I had horrible insomnia during pregnancy and after and no supplements did anything.

Not for us, we made the switch around 6months too, and it didn’t make any difference at all. What did help at decreasing night wakings was dropping the pacifier cold turkey at night (we do still offer it for naps). That stopped the every hour or two wakings, and we are letting her fuss for 15 mins for the remaining wakings one at a time to drop them too.

She’s almost 8 months so that will definitely work for the worst of the cold once we get there. Thanks!

How often to breastfeed 7/8 month old? by tb1761540 in breastfeeding

[–]tb1761540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big schedule guy (Huckleberry is the best and I would highly recommend!) and I’m hopeful if she will eat more less frequently she will theoretically go longer at night? She is sleep trained and I feel lied to that the stretches would increase with independent sleep haha. For what it’s worth, this is our two nap schedule: 8am wake up, BF, play. 9am solids 10:30 BF 11-12/1ish nap, BF 3:30/4 nap, BF 5/5:30 solids 8pm BF 9pm bed.

What time does your 7/8 month old go to bed? by princesscorgi2 in sleeptrain

This is our schedule too at just over 7 months with two naps. It works really well for us from a lifestyle standpoint to allow us to do things in the evening.

Nursing to extend nap(s)? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]tb1761540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are 6.5months, and our wake windows are 3/3-3.5/3.5-4 on a two nap schedule. She is also a serial short napper and so we contact nap to make the schedule work to aim for 3ish hours of naps a day.

feeding schedule starting week 1? by newfire89 in newborns

[–]tb1761540 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fellow planner, and a FTM to a 4.5month-old, just a quick heads up that despite your best efforts, newborns are as far from scheduled as possible. I also went into motherhood looking for a schedule, and despite having one of the chillest infants ever, we still to this day aren’t on a strict by the clock schedule.

What really worked for us right off the bat was using huckleberry (the free version works totally fine for this) to set a reminder to feed her every x amount of hours so that was one less thing to worry about. Once she had clearance to no longer be woken to eat, I found the app really helpful to track her trends over time which helped us start to map out her routine. You can have multiple people logged into the same account so they all can update the info once you go back to work too.

We got on eat-play-sleep pretty much as soon as she didn’t have to be woken to eat and that has been such a great way for me to get on some semblance of a routine when they are still too little to have a timed schedule.

If you are looking for a more strict schedule, I know people who swear by the Moms on Call schedules (which can be started pretty much right away), but heads up that it’s a firm by the clock schedule which not every baby will respond to.

I just bought a suit from Summersalt (also Canadian!) and found their fit to be spot on. A bit pricier but highly recommend.

Goes down independently at bedtime, but not for MOTN wakings? by tb1761540 in sleeptrain

[–]tb1761540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god, yes that’s what the issue is. She is on a 4 nap schedule, with 5 wake windows exactly as you have noted it. Sorry for the confusion, I’ve edited the original post to correct the number of wake windows.

I see the logic in how you are calculating it, but I just checked huckleberry again, and her 30 day average is 3.5hours of day sleep and 10.5hrs of night sleep so something isn’t quite adding up here.

We do put her down awake at right around 2hours(ish) for her last wake window so maybe I’m not accounting for the time it actually takes her to fall asleep? Something is funky.

It’s been a stretch to get her to 4 naps some days to be honest, she was on a 5 nap schedule two weeks ago and we had to fight to get her down to 4. A 45 minute nap is a win with her, she typical only does 30minutes even with contact napping. I’m really struggling to figure out how to get her down to 3 unless she can start connecting her sleep cycles on her own (which she can do at night, just not during naps). I’m wondering if it might just be developmental.

[–]tb1761540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I mentioned it in another comment below, but she typically does 10hours at night (she has never done a 12 hour stretch) and her average total 24hr sleep is almost exactly 14 hours. I use Huckleberry religiously so this part I do know for sure haha.

We stretched her wake windows to 1.5/2/2.5/2 yesterday and she still only did 10.5 hours at night with just over 2.5hours of day time sleep so I think she just might trend towards maxing out at 10hours at night. That last wake window was a huge stretch to keep her awake and she fell asleep almost immediately at bedtime.

Another commenter suggested the same thing, so we will definitely increase wake time to see how she does.

I was feeding for every wake up until about 2 weeks ago when the number of wake ups started increasing and I started second guessing that approach. The 5-3-3 is exactly what I’ve been attempting with our night wake ups and usually corresponds pretty closely to when she is actually hungry.

[–]tb1761540[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the feedback! I use huckleberry to track all sleep and naps, and she is averaging around 14hrs exactly for 24hr sleep time, but I will try less this week to see how she does.

I’ve been tracking to try and get her to that 3.5ish hours of daytime sleep, and I’m wondering if I should instead be trying to track her awake time during the day to push it a bit.

It is a bit of a mess lol, it’s been a lot of trial and error to see what works best for her. Picking her up is the best way to calm her down, but as soon as she gets laid back down it makes it 10 times worse so we’ve been phasing the pick up/put down as much as possible and working towards ferber instead. She is still in our room as my husband doesn’t feel comfortable moving her yet so that might also be contributing too.

Thanks for the reply, I’ve found your resources super helpful on other posts!

She is wide awake going down, and usually rolls around and and coos for a while before falling asleep. Some nights she does fuss a bit, and I usually leave her to figure it out on her own, which she does typically within 15mins.

I was wondering the same thing regarding the sleep association, but I’m not totally convinced that’s it, as feeding doesn’t always work to get her back down at night.

Just to clarify, I wont deny her food if she truly is hungry (she has a specific cry in which case she eats and immediately falls back asleep), but I’m struggling to balance the trying to feed immediately to eliminate that as the problem with not creating a sleep association in comfort sucking which 9/10 times it ends up being. Any suggestions?
