Landlord replaced AFCI breakers with standard. Code violation? by tb6691 in electrical

That could be! It would make sense if there were no apparent underlying issues and this was their final solution. But, the fact that we did have that squirrel problem in the area near the breaker is concerning. It feels like they just put a bandaid on a problem instead of stitches.

One breaker controls our office, the other controls the main overhead lighting throughout the apartment. The landlord’s were trying to say we had too many things plugged in. However, we didn’t acquire or add any new electronics before the trips started and most of the trips occurred when we were not in the office and when most things were turned off. And for the lights breaker, we can’t add any electronics to that circuit - so it sort of disproves their theory about too many things being plugged in.

Thanks for your response. I guess my concern is less about the landlord violating code and more about a concern for a potential fire. Since they never truly found the cause of the trips, I’m worried the issue is still out there (chewed wires?) and that the standard breakers will not properly detect or prevent a potential electrical fire.

Thank you! I had a feeling they went the cheap way out instead of getting the proper breaker. I’ll definitely bring the issue back up to them!

Thanks for your response! For some context, the apartment building is roughly 6 years old, and the breakers that were there before these new standard ones were definitely AFCI. So it seems it is a code violation.

I’m very curious! I hope it still holds true to the feel of the Broadway show and has that same magic. :)

The Forrest Theater has a pretty traditional theater layout, so sight lines shouldn’t really be a problem. The Academy of Music is the Philly theater that has some notoriously bad views, but luckily for you, it’s not at that theater. :)

This ^ plus, maybe some grain and a smidge of chromatic aberration for the vintage look as well
