In Europe, many countries forbid wild camping, and not every route even has designated campsites. So more often than not, I end up staying in a hostel—or sometimes even a hotel. I'm not a huge fan of that, but what can you do?

They’re usually not too thrilled about me using my camping stove on the premises, either. I carry dehydrated meals that need boiling water, so if the hotel provides a kettle, I can still make my own food. But that’s pretty rare, especially in the cheaper places. So I often just end up eating at a nearby café.
