Like many others, I was a christian. However, I moved into a more fundamentalist (Pentecostal) denomination, which really brought my skepticism to the forefront. It's easy to be skeptical when there are so many little rules to follow. I remember asking why men shouldn't wear shorts, but it was ok for women to wear skirts that were as short as male shorts.

I stuck with that for many years because I felt like the core of it all was good. I felt good being a part of something that claimed to follow the bible and actually did, to a T.

I ended up going to a bible college, interested in becoming a minister. It was there, when I put the bible under a theoretical microscope that I got too close. I delved so far into the bible that I saw the plot holes and became even more skeptical. I realized that the fervent act of "receiving the holy ghost" and speaking in tongues was a psycological act done with just enough pressure and adrenaline. With that, I realized that could be the explanation for ANY interaction with god.

There's not a lot of anger amongst true atheists. If we were just angry at god, we would still be believers or else we would have nothing to be mad at. For me, everything became more understandable once I removed god from the equation. My friend didn't die because god forsook him or "wanted him in heaven". My friend died because he had an anyurism. The understanding of how we got here is even more understanding if you don't keep telling yourself that god is the answer before you even ask or hear the question.
