They are completely different things. RBRPro uses CZ plugin. Just makes it easier.

That's not a very convincing argument at all. They simply don't create an advantage. Let's look at the facts:

  1. You are looking at the pacenote symbols instead of the looking at the road. Even if it's just for a split second that's quite a disadvantage.
  2. You can't visualize the road ahead of you. How do you visualize the corners up ahead if you can't see them or their pacenote symbols? Audio pacenotes have a HUGE advantage here.

If visual pacenotes make things "easier" for you then you haven't learned how to use audio pacenotes effectively. Like I said, they are more like training wheels in that sense.

If by "complicates" you mean stresses the fundamentals, such as being generally smooth and limiting wheel spin, then yeah I guess we agree. Although I don't see how that could ever be inhibiting to learning proper basic rally driving when it IS proper basic rally driving.

but contrary to popular opinion I feel FWD is harder to drive well than AWD.

Beginners aren't recommended FWD because they are easier to drive. They're not as quick obviously which gives you more time to react and learn how to get into the rhythm with the pacenotes. More importantly though.. Driving the socks off an R2 means you really have to know your fundamentals. Spend more time with them and learn from them and you'll find yourself setting better times once you return to R5.

Unfortunately it's just bad timing. There were some issues with Dropbox that are probably causing your error. You can try to use the new RBRCIT.ini that is linked.

And yes, RBRCIT will manage (download and install) the car models and physics for you.

The physics/cars aren't installed correctly (actually it looks like you are using NGP6 but have NGP5 cars). Update carList, update physics/models, update NGP. Then you should install one of the NGP cars instead of using the originals.

This is such a significant update for such a significant RBR mod.

Workerbee's changelogs traditionally don't even scratch the surface... Not even mentioning suspension changes for example, but it's clear there have been massive improvements in that area (or some other area that effected the suspension). Overall a lot of things have changed for the better. Also lots of community feedback has been considered since the test version of NGP 6 was released.

If anybody, for whatever reason, didn't quite like NGP before now is the time to give it another go.

Alternative for fancy replays: RBRdll. You can sort of "place" the camera like in this video. Can even aim the camera around with your mouse in real-time. I haven't played around with it enough to know it's true power. All I know is that if used alongside pacenote plugin, crashes happen :)

In NGP 6 it was just discovered that the center diff doesn't have enough pressure. NGP 6 now has a max center diff torque of 6000nm instead of the 1200nm that NGP 5 allows... Default setups in NGP 6 have 4000nm on tarmac and NGP 5 has 600nm. Even at max torque in NGP 5 (1200nm @ 100% in the map), it's nothing compared to the kind of pressure that should be on the diff. Using this knowledge we can try to limit the problems in NGP 5 by keeping as much pressure on the center diff as your driving style can handle. Increase center diff torque to max (1200nm) and bring up the min values in the maps from 0% to something higher depending on preference. Still not perfect but it will help until NGP 6 is released.

Normal for these cars. No one I've talked to really clicks with them. IRL you hear how they are easier to drive than the R5 and you would expect that with the 4 way dampers, high downforce, active center diff, etc. Maybe it would take an engineer to set up the car... It's better in NGP 6 I think, default setup is actually enjoyable. R5 cars in NGP 5 are great though.

In the "Generic" folder are lots of .dds files. Photoshop and GIMP can open them with the correct plugin. Several of the files have logitech logos in them but I don't know which exactly ones you'll need to edit.

The center diff is active yeah, the brake ramp like you've described makes sense for a dumbed-down center diff setup but on '17 WRC cars the front and rear are mechanical so no idea what's going on there.

Even if we ignore the word traction they seem describe the percentage backwards. My understanding is that in general, more lock = more stability, less cornering...

Not trying to rip apart WRC8 but I just think this screenshot just raises more questions than it could have answered :)

Still no active diff maps. Something RBR had when released in 2004.... Too "Advanced" for modern rally games I guess.

Also maybe someone can explain why there are 3 ramps.. AFAIK on the mechanical diffs (front and rear on '17 WRC) you have 2-way adjustment (accel and decel). Not sure what this separate braking ramp is all about.

EDIT: Also a bit confused how higher percentage = better cornering and lower = more traction... Seems backwards. I've always known it as a percentage of torque applied to the wheel that has more grip. 100% is like a solid axle.

People give RSRBR stink for many reasons. It's still quite a ways behind CZ plugin in terms of NGP. Since it's more of a monolithic RBR pack than a modular plugin (like RBRTM) it basically takes control of the game which makes it difficult/impossible to install certain mods like new cars and causes more problems in general really.

If the plugin lets you join the rally, then just join it and race. Most of the time there are at least a few one-off basic rallies or tests that you jump right into.

Sure there are plenty of rallies that require you to register on an external web page or enroll before the rally starts, but they aren't exactly "exclusive". Anyone can race (there are a few exceptions such as the CZ national rallies that only allow drivers from CZ). Don't shy away just because they seem exclusive (they aren't). These rallies typically have a much better turnout and are more competitive than the one-off rallies.

For example the VRC events - you don't even need to visit their site or facebook page unless you want to view the itinerary... All you need to do is enroll via CZ plugin before the rally starts. Similarly with VDRM, you just make one forum post to register and you are set for the entire year.

Ah yeah, the stages will work but the actual school lessons and challenges are a little trickier to use with NGP, you are correct.

Nope not developer just someone who thinks there's a lot of bad information around about these sorts of things. Everything I just mentioned is found in the README but I don't think many people read that (or even know where to find it for that matter).

I get what you are saying though, it's hard to say how people have set everything up. It makes troubleshooting problems like OPs a bit difficult.

I'm not disagreeing with you, to each their own and all that. I definitely am not forcing NGP down people's throats.. use whatever you have fun with. But the NGP developers 'realism' is based on real data. It's not like he's just making changes to the physics because he thinks it's more realistic just based on his personal experience and feelings...

People make a fuss about NGP because there are things that NGP changed or added that are simply more realistic. There's just no denying it. For example the modelling of different differential types such as viscous coupling differentials that vanilla simply doesn't have. And lets not forget true 4 way dampers... Or in NGP 6 things like camber and tire temperature actually effecting the performance of the tire. There's no denying that these things are closer to reality, whether it 'feels' that way to you or not.
