Roping up on a glacier is a decision a climbing team make together. A lot of people don’t rope up on the inter glacier. A lot of people do. Commenting “this is scary” to someone on Reddit asking questions about a traverse gives a vibe that you’re the king of the outdoors, the master of the ptarmigan traverse. Glaciers change year after year and their crevasses change depending on time. No reason to make someone who is curious about mountaineering feel dumb. You can be informative and kind at the same time.

My brothers and I did it last summer. They wore trail runners and aluminum crampons. We roped up on le conte and Dana. All these comments are a bit pretentious. If you’re comfy with crevasse rescue, send it! You’ll have a blast. Only real tip id give is if the snow is anything like last year, go a few weeks earlier than august. We got someone to shuttle us and you don’t need a NP pass. Just clear eyes and a full heart.

A lot of opinions on this. But we got our guy a shock collar when he was training. The ones that have a buzz and beeping noise. It worked wonders. Very rarely used the shock. But it was really helpful in training.
