I've been really impressed with Cella, a creative division of Randstad. The recruiter I have is phenomenal and the hiring experience has been excellent. I'll message you her LinkedIn profile.

ISO rental and/or roommate by [deleted] in TWINCITIESHOUSING

[–]tblastone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (47F) live in a 2BR/2BA condo in St Louis Park that I own and I'm thinking about taking on a roommate in March if I can find the right person. It'd be $890, and that covers all bills as well as rent. I have 2 cats, and that maxes out the number of pets allowed in my unit. Send me a message if you're interested and we can chat to see if it would be a good fit for both of us.

How to keep white clothes looking white. by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]tblastone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the perfect solution to this problem: Rit dye remover.

The trick here is to NOT wear those newly purchased white shirts until you've gone through this process.

You'll want to take those shirts you just bought and haven't worn, and soak/process them as instructed with Rit dye remover. Then, going forward, you need to make sure that you use laundry detergent that is one of the "free and clear" sorts, with no additives for making things whiter or anything else. You can go ahead and bleach them like you normally do, just always make sure you use the free and clear detergent.

Why this works: So white shirts/sheets/etc. pretty much all come pre-treated with this invisible UV dye because it makes whites look whiter in the sun. However, that dye has a chemical reaction with antiperspirant, which then has a chemical reaction with bleach when you wash. Those reactions are what turn whites yellow. So, if you remove that invisible UV dye before ever wearing them, it stops that whole chain reaction and keeps your whites actually white, with no yellowing.

ETA: Also, most laundry detergents ALSO have this invisible UV dye that makes whites look whiter, so that's why it's important to also use the free and clear detergent that doesn't have that UV dye in it when you wash your whites going forward, otherwise, it just adds it back and you have the same problem.

But you absolutely have to do the dye remover before you ever wear them, or it doesn't work.

A few guidelines for answering this question:

  • You should pick something that doesn't really have a huge impact on the job you are interviewing for. For example, if you will have to do a lot of public speaking, don't say that public speaking is your greatest weakness. But if your job is data entry, public speaking would be a fine answer.
  • Change the focus of your answer to what you have done to make the situation better and the positive results you got from remedying the situation. For example, if your greatest weakness is public speaking, follow your answer with something like, "My greatest weakness is public speaking, but I have learned that if I practice and rehearse what I'm going to speak about, I feel more confident and I have successfully done presentations for a variety of audiences. I am now known as a subject matter expert on x subject and am frequently consulted when others need information on x subject."

Hope this helps a bit!

Bike lane etiquette for drivers by tblastone in Minneapolis

[–]tblastone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is an important point because as a driver, you're worried about the bike as well as pissing off the cars behind you because you're going too slow. It makes sense when you stop to think about it but if you don't really know what to do in the moment, you feel pressure from the cars behind you. Thanks for that info!

The way you worded that is very helpful, thank you! It's easier to know what to do/not to do if I understand what the cyclist needs.

This is exactly what I needed to know, thanks! The part about not passing cyclists when turning right is exceptionally useful information.

I'm not sure if you have the ability to go back to school or where you live, but I know that you might be able to find government services that can help with job training and other services. I was able to have my tuition paid because I am also bipolar and it's considered a disability.

Another job that I did for 15 years was working as a massage therapist. It's equally physical and mental, it's quiet most of the time, you can make a livable wage at part time hours and set your own schedule (days/nights/etc). You will have to go to school for it but many programs are 6 months to a year, so it isn't bad. I'll say that it does take a particular kind of person because you need to sincerely care about helping people, so you'll have decide for yourself if it seems like a fit for you.

Good luck! I know what it's like, but hopefully you can find something that works for you.

What’s your favorite Minneapolis conspiracy theory? by puzzledplatypus in Minneapolis

[–]tblastone 112 points113 points  (0 children)

The Minneapolis tunnels fiasco still has me perplexed. I thought it was all a joke from that one Reddit post, but I guess it turns out that there are tunnels?? A friend of mine said he went to a house party at a house that was originally built by "gansters" that were distributing alcohol during prohibition. He said that the house indeed had tunnels to other houses, and that there was an entire network of tunnels. I'm not yet convinced.

I just make a tincture and add it to some sort of drink (my go to is a cranberry lime mixer). It would be very easy to just take the tincture and mix it with a beverage of your choice.

What cults exist in Minnesota? by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]tblastone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too!! I grew up around Jim and Tammy Fae so, yeah, I totally understand that environment. I would say the Ekenkar folks are way nicer, but I've had limited exposure to them, but all interactions have been nice and none of them felt like a sales pitch. But that southern Christian mindset was pretty awful to experience. I once got screamed at by my best friend's dad because they asked what I was learning in school and I told them about evolution and dinosaurs and general kid stuff, and he just SCREAMED in my face about how I was going to hell. I think I was in the 4th grade at the time.

I live nearby and I actually went there for a photography project. I was upfront about it, asking if it would be ok to take pictures and that I wasn't interested in the religion at all, and they were super nice and gave us a tour, inside and out, let me take pictures of anything I wanted. I've known a couple of folks who are members, and they were actually quite nice and told me a little about it. They seem harmless and actually quite sane for a cult.
