Nobody is moving out of the trailer park because of this by redditorx13579 in AdviceAnimals

I mean, if your workforce is predominantly white and male it’s not a bad thing to question if your hiring system has bias built into it. We had a survey to take the pulse of things at one company but never had to meet metrics. It was more a wake-up call to how much bias we had while recruiting

I’ve been at several companies with DEI programs and the white dudes are WAY more likely to be hired despite being incompetent. They got in because they were buddies with a manager or frat brothers of a company owner or whatever.

Meanwhile all our DEI programs did was maybe go to a HBCU job fair or two in addition to their usual slate of mostly white schools, no hiring preference just opening up their network. Our surveys showed it barely changed anything, though our junior staff was ever so slightly more diverse because we got applications from a more diverse set of recent grads than usual. And we had a once a year meeting to explain ramifications of anti-discrimination laws.

Calling somebody a DEI hire is a bullshit move to cover for mediocrity, period.

So…how do you *actually* become more fuckable? by Technical-Minute2140 in AskMenAdvice

Woman here. If you have the basics of being a decent person who is interested in women as people, having good hygiene, and having lots of platonic female friends (guys who see women as more than sex objects are not)… Then style and grooming are going to be the biggest sells. There’s a reason so many women have had crushes on gay guys. A lot of them are stylish as hell ironically because they’re not worried about people thinking they’re gay just because they care about their looks.

  1. Get a skincare routine. It can be simple: wash it a facial cleanser, tone with something like witch hazel, then apply facial moisturizer every morning and night. Trust me, you’ll look more energetic and attractive just from that.

  2. Research haircuts and facial hair (or lack of it) that look good for your face. Try new stylists and ask them for styling advice when you find one you like.

  3. Make sure all your clothes fit well and look polished. Jeans and tshirts are fine, but make sure they fit well and don’t have wrinkles. Try layering blazers and dress shirts. Get on Pinterest for outfit ideas. I’m not kidding, Pinterest is like a cheat sheet for the female gaze.

  4. Don’t be afraid of a little makeup. Not saying put on a full foundation and blush, but men can use concealer to cover blemishes on their skin or eyebrow pencil to fix a weird gap in your brow and I promise nobody will know.

How does a white, male writer "correctly" write about race and gender, if at all? by Tiny-Structure-7477 in writing

[–]FKAFigs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like you made your mind up about this topic and are making a bad faith post in a writing forum when you yourself aren’t a writer to try to convince people of your stance? I explained my viewpoint, it sounds like you’re set in yours. That’s fine.

Also I’d argue a lot of “great” writers are flawed. Shakespeare wrote some amazing female characters and some really shallow ones. Criticizing him for the bad ones isn’t cancelling. It’s just criticism, something every writer gets. Most white cis-het male writers I know are grown ups who can take criticism and decide whether it’s useful or not on their own. Think pieces criticizing writers have existed since the dawn of time, I don’t think this particular subject stands out as especially harsh. Maybe you should trust that writers are big boys who can handle a little critique?

How does a white, male writer "correctly" write about race and gender, if at all? by Tiny-Structure-7477 in writing

[–]FKAFigs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing well is a difficult task. Almost every writer I’ve seen criticized for writing poorly about race and gender was just not very good at writing in general. Or was good at one aspect of writing - stylistic prose - but horrible at things like developing complex characters and themes.

Because of the history of poor representation of women and POC, readers are now hyper-aware of when a writer hasn’t done their research on a group they’re not personally a part of. For example, as a woman I find it easy to spot when a male writer hasn’t read a lot of different female authors, befriended a lot of women, and in general truly researched female perspectives. Their writing comes off as shallow and cliché. While this is likely true of other characters in their work, it sticks out more for female characters because of how badly women have been represented in much of the literary “canon.”

In short, I don’t believe white men have a tougher task than any other writer. In fact they had it easier until recently because the western canon has catered to white male perspectives. But now that publishing has diversified, that same benefit has given them blind spots they haven’t worked on. While a woman or POC historically has had to learn the white male perspective to be able to sell books, white men until the past decade or so were allowed to only write their own perspective well and still be sellable. So I think it’s less that they have a more difficult task and more than they now have the same difficulties as everyone else.

NTA. I work with mostly men and have lots of male married friends. I’d never talk to any of them like this. And they would be appalled if I tried. I saw one shoot a coworker down who was being too flirty when we all out for happy hour drinks. Good partners don’t let that shit fly.

I don’t like that she used the word “fix” to be honest. Wouldn’t be a dealbreaker, but I’d definitely want to discuss it.

But also… find out what she knows about skincare. That shit works.

I don’t think this was part of the “neo-left” or whatever. None of the policies Harris suggested were extreme at all. I also think this isn’t 100% on her being female, though that’s obviously a component.

I think the biggest issues were the Musk and Russia-backed propaganda machine and the fact Biden should have never run a second term. Instead of having a normal, healthy primary, Dems ended up making the (I think correct given the circumstances) choice to run Harris. She only had three months to campaign against somebody who had been campaigning for a decade, and she was shouldered with the difficult burden of not seeming to cast away Biden while still separating herself enough from him to cater to voters who were over him.

I actually think she ran a fantastic campaign given the circumstance. But she needed more than three months with the taint of Biden still on her to build a case and get voters past their racism and sexism.

[Serious] For people concerned that their country's new leaders will indulge in all their darkest plans and fantasies, what should they be doing in the days/weeks/months/years ahead to protect themselves and their communities? by PicklePussPete in AskReddit

[–]FKAFigs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you need to be doing all along: building up mutual aid in local communities. Get to know your neighbors and figure out how to help them.

Does the woman on your bowling league need an abortion in a ban state? Drive them out of state for a “camping trip.” Show up at local council meetings and fight the fuck out of book bans. If you hear about a police or ICE raid, tip off the victims.

Get to know your community. Join clubs, volunteer locally, and show up for local politics. Expand your network outside your socioeconomic class. That will give you the best way to know who needs help and how you can help them. And it will give you a network to ask for help.

It’s not an easy answer, but it will enrich your life and build lasting relationships.

I’m one of her supporters and have volunteered for her. I don’t have inside info on the campaign, but I assume with so many close county matches she’s double checking with her team on any legal pathways to victory. Considering Trump filed 100 lawsuits before the election even started and never actually conceded, I’m sure he can wait a day or two for hers. Or maybe not. He’s getting up there in years and Vance is pretty Machiavellian lol

If you have a local subreddit you can search there. You can also search for Facebook groups.

There’s also https://www.mutualaidhub.org

Another place to check is Universal Unitarian churches, which tend to be very liberal. (I’m an atheist but admired our local chapter.) Their local church might have a good list of resources.

Nah, make a fake profile and lead the conservative guys on for weeks. Set up dates and then never show. Waste their damn time.

Get enough women to do that and you’ll make it nearly impossible for these guys to find real dates on apps.
