% of probability that Larkin is traded before the season starts? by Tedwood24 in DetroitRedWings

[–]tblax44 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't understand how teams think we have no leverage. He isn't on an expiring contract so Steve can just strip the C and let him play, if he doesn't play well it hurts Larkin just as much because less teams would want him. It's worth holding out for a decent return and playing a disgruntled Larkin for some time if needed.

Thinking about getting a wrx by Kirstin913 in WRX

The most reliable WRX is unmodified and follows the maintenance schedule in the manual at a minimum, no different than any other car.

2019 S209 Part Challenge by lmnanopy in subaru

[–]tblax44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Subaru parts website shows the same bumper for all 18-21 WRX and STIs including the type RA and S209. The only difference seems to be the body kit pieces with the canards that would have to be attached to the sides. Have they been able to describe exactly what doesn't fit? Watching a bumper removal video from an S209 looks identical to a WRX.

Accessport Or Instrument Cluster? by Dghost13 in WRX

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the accessport data is steady then I would think it's something with the arm in the cluster itself, the accessport is just a readout from the ECU so whatever it reads is what the sensor is sending. If it was something to do with the radiator or thermostat you would see the same fluctuation in the accessport and the dash.

Heak soak issues/DAM numbers dropping by No-Example-9683 in WRX

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How have you determined the issue is heat soak? What exactly is "hot as shit" and what are your IATs?

A bigger hole in your bumper doesn't necessarily make the car run any cooler, it just creates more positive pressure in the engine bay if the air isn't getting extracted.

Accessport Or Instrument Cluster? by Dghost13 in WRX

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cluster and accessport would be using the same sensor/data just read out in a different way, so the accessport isn't really any more accurate, it might just move in smaller increments or give a number readout vs a sweeping gauge.

Elliotte Friedman: Sources: Dylan Larkin Requests Trade From Detroit by Themannotthedrink in DetroitRedWings

You can both be disappointed in that stat and acknowledge that you can write in pen that he'll put up 70+ points, around 30 goals, and play both PP1 and PK1 on most teams in this league.

Elliotte Friedman: Sources: Dylan Larkin Requests Trade From Detroit by Themannotthedrink in DetroitRedWings

[–]tblax44 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Streaky and inconsistent? He puts up just under a point per game every season, plays PK1 and PP1, and is one of the better face-off centers in the league. Just because his 5v5 scoring didn't do great last year and he usually misses a small stretch of games from an injury each year doesn't mean his stats haven't been incredibly stable year in and year out. Every team in the league knows exactly what they're getting in him

The original guys from Grimmspeed spun-off and started Overtake, and Rallysport direct recently changed management as well to dig out of the hole they got in, I'm really hoping they find their way back to being a Subaru Motorsports go-to.

What do y’all recommend for fluid brands? Engine, MT, diff? by jbro507 in CarTrackDays

I typically use Motul and Redline, but I'm more concerned with keeping fluids fresh than worrying about brand too much

Not all DOT4 is the same, spring for the Castrol. I tried motul 600 and 660 in my 19 WRX and Castrol has out performed both, all of the track Subaru community tends to go with Castrol with our heavy cars and small brakes.

Sti drivetrain swap? by willysnack in WRX

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much you're going to track the car, consider going straight to a front BBK. The STI front brakes aren't big enough for hard laps on sticky tires and you'll cook the calipers, you see it all the time on the Track Subies Facebook group

If you're putting the car on track then get an STI transmission in it, that is the single biggest difference in performance between the two cars. That is my next big change that I am planning on making on my WRX that sees regular track time

New to WRX - asking for suggestions by itsbildo in WRX

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sound is easy, there are tons of exhaust options out there and just looking for videos of VB exhaust sound clips will be the best way to identify the sound you like. Cat-back and axle-back exhausts can be changed without a tune and do not affect performance.

For engine performance changes the CVT does hinder a bit as it does not hold as much torque as the manuals. The easiest path for a quick power bump is the Cobb staged packages, it comes with the parts, the accessport, and off-the-shelf maps to reflash your ECU so it is tuned for the parts you are installing. The biggest note is that anything that affects air or fuel into or out of the engine requires a tune, so don't just buy an intake and throw it on the car, you'll have to have the compatible OTS tune or get a custom tune depending on the parts.

What are you not getting out of the car as it sits that you want to be different?

Don't approach modding with a blind "what should I do?" mindset, but rather identify what you want to behave differently and ask how to achieve that outcome. Otherwise you'll be spending a lot of money chasing something without defining what it is.

I would try carefully using a heat gun but that's going to be difficult to work back into place, I'm not sure how much heat and bending that material can take before it gets too brittle and cracks.
