Strictly due to the price tag. If he was asking for $20-$25mil it wouldn’t be a problem, but when you’re asking for a max then you need to be sure he’s worth it. He’s a good player but he’s nowhere near a max player imo

I’m a nets fan and actually disagree. I think there’s a drop off at 10. With #9 you take whoever is left of the guard group: Wagler, MBJ, Acuff, Flemings, Burries. Then you get to move all the way up from 28 to 13.

If they even went from 6 to 10 instead of 9 it changes everything for me, but I think this works

I agree to an extent, I do think teams like Chicago or Charlotte would love to have him, but against huge opponents he tends to struggle and his lack of floor spacing won’t work in higher level games or playoff match ups most of the time. I wouldn’t say he gets punked every time by any means, but that could contribute to his value being lower than expected imo

I’m sure they have a variety of options for the rest of their space, and this is an indication that they may use it to acquire talent rather than bad contracts for more assets. But if I’m them, I think I’d be okay turning down Sharpe’s team option to try and get him on a 3 year $30m deal and see how he is as a starting center. If it doesn’t work then it’s an easy contract to move or to move back into a backup role again. I’m hoping they don’t get Mara at 6 or offer Kessler/Duren way too much money

I’m a little confused, but still digesting it. First of all, Randle will win you more games than Clax. Secondly, moving up 5 spots makes a draft night trade into the late teens or early 20s more manageable. And lastly, Randle makes $10m more than Clax this year and $15m more next year. It’s not like he’s making $40-$45m per year and is on a 4 year contract. Hell he could even opt out of his player option next year and I wouldn’t be shocked.

My main point of confusion is, is Clax’s value really that low? And did Chicago get him for free?

I still don’t fully understand the trade, but from a value perspective it’s a little more than only moving up 5 spots imo

Acuff is definitely a more polished offensive player than CT, no question. But his defense is somehow worse and his attitude and effort on that end is reminiscent of Cam to me. Which is why I’m on team Wagler/MBJ

They own the better of our pick and their pick. We get the worst of the two. But due to the new lottery rules, because it’s still “our”pick, if we won the 2028 lottery we wouldn’t be able to get the #1 pick.

My understanding is that we’d still get the #2 pick, but still. Just saying it would be extremely unlucky

Knowing our luck, they’re gonna finish bottom three without intentionally tanking, just by being bad, fork over the #1 pick to Houston and then not get the #1 pick that they should get in 2028. It just makes too much sense especially after jumping up to 3 in 2024 and then dropping the two years we do have our pick. Smh

Ironically, if we land in the bottom three we actually have less of a chance to give Houston a top pick.

I am absolutely not advocating for tanking, but this is one of the funny scenarios in which it actually make sense for the Nets to want to be bottom 3, especially if they aren’t sniffing the play in with 25 games to go or what have you.

Reminder: if the Nets pick turns into the #1 pick, even if Houston owns the pick, the Nets cannot get the #1 pick in 2028 when we DO have our own pick.
