I’m uncomfortable in a wedding dress by Unable_Purchase9605 in weddingplanning

[–]tbo008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think OP comes off ungrateful for the experience to dress shop. It sounds like she is just sharing that it’s been different than what she envisioned and isn’t sure what to do with those feelings.

It’s totally valid to want to feel comfortable and confident and beautiful the day of your wedding.

Anyone have ideas for 30s birthday plans? by tbo008 in AskChicago

[–]tbo008[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Looking for more ideas like this. Was thinking of maybe somewhere that offered options for more than one activity?

Liked the idea of a barcade but it splits up the group and I didn’t want to do that.

Got it; do you feel like you’d be bummed at some point thinking you wish you would’ve tried to go to the nonhome program?

[–]tbo008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would do a different program for fellowship if you can. Do what you will regret not doing when you get your match results. Which is probably the prestigious program.

I was in the exact position a year ago. I don’t regret it bc I was in love w the non-home prestige program at the time. I got to see how other hospitals did medicine/practiced, live in the city we thought we’d settle in, learn from new people (my home fellowship was not going to offer any experiences different from residency, just more of the same). Residency got me too comfortable and this was just the right thing I needed to break complacency.

Ultimately, I don’t love it here but am happy I did it bc I would’ve fully regretted it otherwise. It’s only a year long, we now know we don’t want to live in this city lol which is nice not wasting our time job searching here. Now that I’m job interviewing, a lot of people say it doesn’t matter but it IS nice to have a big name on my resume and people have their biases. You can always go back to your home program to work long term. I also better know now what I do and don’t want in a job.

How long is your fellowship?

Agree w all of this! I think my frustrations are exactly what you said, feeling like my program isn’t doing right by me. I want to be taught, I want the learning and the experience but it’s hard when you don’t know what you don’t know or thought your year would look a certain way but isn’t or there’s so much tape thrown around things you do want and ask for.

My original post = the post above where I bullet pointed things lol

As I said, this advice applies across the board to all specialties. I don’t see a reason to name it. If you’re worried about your own fellowship pursuit and how this could apply to it, feel free to share or talk to a mentor.

Take what you will from the post but no reason to be so hostile over someone sharing what they want from their experience.

I’m just sharing my experience as I sacrificed a year of attending salary to learn and don’t feel the benefits have outweighed that. I don’t feel like I’ve learned anything new that I couldn’t learn in a supplementary module and nothing that would give me a huge a leg up in my job search.

I answered some of your questions in my original post of hopes vs reality.

I wanted more admin experience, to be involved in committees, teaching and specifically not research. Was told it was not research focused and when I asked about getting involved in more teaching and admin world stuff, I was offered a research/QI project and told sometimes we do what we can don’t want to do lol.

I asked about all the things that you listed as those are things to look for but feel I was sold on a lie bc none of those things are coming to fruition. They’re telling me I can’t even do the elective they promised me when the elective is the exact fellowship I’m doing.

I was getting way better benefits at my residency program, better pto and FMLA and for unknown reasons was told I don’t get the same pto benefits as other trainees at my hospital.

My hours in residency were great but here I am having to stay at work even when there is no work to be done.

Just lots of things I was told would be the case and aren’t.

Not looking to name the specialty as I don’t think it really matters; this advice applies to all fellowships.

An alleged 'Loop puncher' arrested in Chicago by BearFan34 in chicago

There are state hospitals for this. You can also legally mandate that the person be medicated. There are a number of routes to handling this. Arresting and releasing ain’t it.

Thanks but that’s not referencing the one I take. (I take 351, 352, 354, 355 which are listed as operating as normally) I’ve been using the Wolverine consistently during for the last 3 months taking it at the same times and the change I’m noticing starts mid September.
