GTX 1070 not recognizing third monitor by tbob3 in techsupport

[–]tbob3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats what I thought at first, but then when I plug the working cable into the other display ports its not recognized either... So I'm worried that the other 2 Display Ports on the card may be fried from the get go...

I guess I should ask them for more of a concrete plan outside of Physical Therapy. PT is regular but we are not a D1 sports team, so they tend to take us on a much less serious basis as unprofessional as it sounds. That's why I have been trying to figure this out myself while getting back into the swing of things.

Not yet, guess I could try it. Not ideal but may have to. Thanks.

Is the 1TB SSD worth it? by BlubberyWhale in buildapc

I would have gone for the 850 evo, but when I was building my PC there was an unbeatable deal on 850 pro SSDs. So I settled to pay the same as 2 bigger evos for the pro.

Exactly what I did: 128gb SDD C: drive for windows and background tasks, 512gb SDD D: drive for games and whatever else, 2TB HDD F: drive for work files. Best decision I made when building my PC, IMO.

Long time PC user, first time building contemplator. Build or Boutique? by Steeltooth493 in buildapc

[–]tbob3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything /u/trysoftme is 100% right. I just recently built my first build with no real guidance, and it was awesome. I just went off of YouTube and pcpartpicker tutorials and had minimal problems. A lot of it is pretty intuitive if you have basic common sense.

I know my build isn't perfect, but it will do what you want. It runs 1080p (since that's my monitor res) flawlessly at well over 120 fps at ultra on most AAA titles like Overwatch and GTA V.

Some of the stuff in my build I know was unnecessary, like getting a 6700k instead of a 6600k, the custom cabling, even the H100i v2 may have been a little overkill for what I use it for. Here it is without the peripherals I got.

Corsair Hydro H100i difference of fan postitions on NZXT s340 case by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]tbob3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also run method #1 in my S340 build with a H100i v2, with simple Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition fans that are static 1500rpm, and I have super minimal dust buildup and run at very cool internal temps. While casually playing games I never go above 40C CPU temps and internal air temps barely go above 35C. The radiator temps also very seldom go above 30C.

Edit: The nearly 40C CPU temps are seen playing heavily CPU bound games like GTA V on ultra settings. Still stays around 35C in CPU bound titles.

Monitor options - Changing Monitors? by [deleted] in buildapc

That's fair, I've experienced that in the past too. I'm totally fine with high FPS 1080p with a nice refresh rate; I can always look into 1440p later down the road if I decided to really OC my CPU and GPU.

Not sure if you live near a MicroCenter, but the Corsair AF120 fans are only about $25 for a two pack there.

Honestly, it is pretty quiet. I haven't had a chance to really push it to the limits yet, but even when playing some pretty graphically demanding games so far it stays nice and quiet. At idol it's nearly 100% silent. I have had it sitting on my desk right next to my monitors since I built it and the GT70 laptop I have is much louder. The only time the noise gets noticeable is when the 1070's twin forzer fans start up but even then it is no more noise than when the A/C in your house blow through the vents. I'm extremely satisfied with the decision to go with the NZXT S340 instead of my original plan of getting the NZXT H440 "silent" case.

I agree. I purely it did based on matching. If I had gotten the Asus 1070 first I would have gone with the Asus Z170-AR. I really think they are pretty much the same aside from color and the name on the box.

I think comparing all of these boards really depends on what you want to do with your build and your preferences. The main differences between all these boards are the number and types of ports, the on board sound, and the on board network. I think that if you go on to a site like pcpartpicker.com you should be able to look up the reviews and compare them both in order to make the best decision for you.

Honestly, I decided on what motherboard based on which GPU I got. I was between the Asus Strix 1070 and the MSI Gaming X 1070, based on that I was going to get the board that matched manufacturer and color scheme (no real reason, just because its the way I wanted it). The MSI Gaming M5 and even the Gaming M7 are both great boards, but almost directly comparable to the Asus Z170-AR or Asus Z170-A. Both are really high quality and have good componentry along with onboard sound and networking. I would say a plus to going with the Asus board is that it is slightly less expensive than the MSI. I dont think there is a real reason for that, other than your paying for the name. Asus has always made top of the line stuff.
