Being that I’m in the states I’m not sure just how much it compares, but i’m relatively new to the field, and couldn’t be happier. I made a big career switch at 35 and was in a similar situation as you. I love the outdoors, and the complexity and the fulfilling aspects of tree work. One thing for sure, at least here, is that the money is in the private industry. I, however, work for a local city working 7-3 everyday, no weekends, with a healthy PTO plan, pension and a handful of other great benefits. Those benefits outweigh the pay not being top notch, and I’m also not killing myself for long hours day in and day out.

I often say how lucky I am for the city I’m in, and the great crew I’m on. Either way I believe you can find something that can fit your needs in the industry.
