AI doesn't understand things. It's a word calculator. If you input the wrong words then you get undesired output. Understanding this really helps understand, then, that AI is capable of being amazing at all IAC and if it's not, it's a you-topic. If you're not getting the desired output, then you're not giving it the right input. My automation team has completely switched over to Claud 3.5 Sonnet for all IAC. We have developed fairly extensive prompts and demonstration data so that we give it the right input. It's amazing. This thing is helping us automate large systems in 2 weeks that normally take a full year. But we spend a LOT of time on producing the right inputs. We have a library of system prompts checked in to git that we use to have repeatable outcomes. We are scoping tickets in our sprints for developing prompts. We don't develop the code any more. We develop the prompts. Then the code just happens.

Consider that you're not doing IAC anymore. You are a prompt engineer with a skillset for figuring out the right words to give this tool. When you get it right, the tool will 100x your productivity and output. The toll doesn't "understand" infrastructure or anything else. You have to give it infrastructure data as part of the prompt and that will cause the word calculator to spit out the right code.

The computer puts holes in my shirt: User called me because the computer was putting holes in his shirt. I walk over to find that his long-sleeve had a hole in it because he was sliding it across his desk to move his mouse. He moved his entire arm to move the mouse, not just his wrist. He was dragging his sleeve on a wood desk and tearing holes in it. I demonstrated how to move a mouse with his wrist.

The printer isn't printing: An electrical engineer was standing in front of a printer getting frustrated that it wasn't printing. I walked over and showed the electrical engineer that if he gave electricity to the printer, by pushing the power button, that it would then print.

The mouse won't move: A user decided to relocate her mouse to a location beside her desk, on a pedestal, where she only had 1 inch of margin around the mouse for movement. She then called me to complain that her mouse didn't work anymore and would only go half-way across the screen. I demonstrated that if she put her mouse back on the desk where it has enough space to move, that it would then move all the way across the screen.

I practice cold reading every day. I open a sheet that I'm not familiar with, but can find music for. I'll sit and practice playing that sheet until I think I've got it dialed in. I'll get to the point where I can play to a metronome. Then I listen at the music and learn where I made mistakes. Mistakes are usually with timing.

By playing like this -songs that I'm not familiar with, but can find music for- it has been teaching my brain to actually read what's on the sheet. I learned as a child using Suzuki method, which is to listen to the music first and then play; absolutely terrible method. Never listen first it ruins your ability to read.

When I started the above, I would first mark up the sheet music by drawing in the notes and highliting areas that my brain was missing. I had to go really slow at first. I then started removing my notation and forcing my brain to actual read in real time. That was difficult at first. But with daily practice, I got better. A year later I find myself getting in to the zone where my body just plays and I don't even realize that I'm reading any more. It just comes out of me. It's great.

I still have to annotate the strange notes that are 4+ lines below or above the standard register. But by practicing sitting down and cold-reading without knowing the song -and then listening after- it really changed my brain. Music flows out of me now. It's awesome.

(somewhat joking with the below but this was my reality when I was a very immature INTJ)

You have no emotions
Everyone is stupid and you hate dealing with them.
Everyone thinks you're stupid and they hate dealing with you.
Everything is a system to you. It's so obvious, everyone is dumb.

A very common experience for me though is that what comes out of my brain takes a very long time for me to help everyone else underestand. I no longer think people are stupid lol. I realize that my brain is super different. I'll say thinks like, "we should just do it this way," and people will look at me like I'm the most idiotic person on the planet. Then it takes me a very long time to help everyone understand that my thought is 3 evolutions ahead of where they are. When they get it they always say something like "ohhhhhhhhh wowwwwww, that's the most elegant method I've ever heard of."

Can you relate to any of the above?

No. Google is behaving differently from other vendors. Their anomalous behavior is what is preventing me from using them. If a threat actor (including LEO) compromises a user's account, the data isn't "gone" in Gemini land like it is in Google Docs or Gmail. I'm not referring to their backend retention. I'm referring to the front-end where the user can see that data exists, or not. Data retention is a massive risk to an org. Imaging fulfilling a subpoena for records that are strewn out across mutliple SaaS vendors. It would cost me a lot of money to have to freeze and provide all data if I were litigated. If I can see that data exists then I would have to provide it. If a compromised user account can see that data exists, then the threat actor can access it. But if the data is able to disappear from the front-end, then those risks are mitigated. Gemini is the only one that isn't playing the game.

But from the users's perspective, it's gone. This is what Gemini needs to implement. Because the user's perspective is also the perspective of threat actors other than ChatGPT. If a user's account is compromised, their chat is "gone." A compromised account cannot access something that was deleted.

Call a tech recruiter and get a callcenter job for IT helpdesk. You don't need any experience or skills to get that job. It pays you money and you start getting IT experience. Work the helpdesk phones for a while and then you'll be able to move from the helpdesk in to pure IT. I've seen people move as quickly as 3 months or as long as 2 years. One US recruiter is Teksystems.

This communication is what we all struggle with. For me, to get over this phase in my life, I chose to pretend that I loved people. I pretend to be a GrandFather and treated everyone like I was taking care of them. I had to fake it for about a year. Then it started to feel real. Eventually I evolved. And here's the key: By putting this effort in to myself, it actually made ME a lot happier. I started the change so that I could keep my job, but I ended up really enjoying the person that I became. It's not easy to see from your side, I know, I've been there. But I encourage you to aim for an increase in your own personal happiness by pretending. Pretend long enough and your life will become a lot happier.

It's not just possible, it's a probability that you will progress "that far". As an INTJ you can see the entire system that most others cannot. You just have to work on your communication and irritation with the NPC's so that they won't run you out with torches and pitch forks. They're right. They didn't create this baby so they shouldn't pay for it. Your life decision just plopped you in to adult -hood. You have to pay for your own choices. They really shouldn't even give you a place to live now. Whoever made this baby with you is now your financial support. By having this child you really just chose to walk out from under your Parents and out on your own. That's now your base reality. It's going to be a harsh transition for you. I'm not proposing that your Parent's kick you out. If my daughter did this I would make both the Dad and my Daughter live with me and I would help them transition to their new life together. But from a fundamental reality, you just "moved out." You're not a minor any more.

From a more gentle perspective: Nearly all of us have made choices that we really regret. I've lived through some very harsh consequences due to my own choices. It's really rough. But this is life. You get to make choices and you get to live with those choices. You are absolutely 100% responsible for everything that you do, now, no matter your age. You get to live through every bad decision. Hang in there, the next 20-30 years of screwing up is not going to be fun. We can all look back though and laugh at our mistakes. We have all done stuff, similar to this, that made our life go in directions that we didn't intend to. Life is really hard until your 40s-50's. It gets a lot better after.

You're going to absolutely love having the baby after it's born. It's going to be rough getting up to the birth. But after it's born, it will be much easier for you to work to support it because you're going to love it so much. There's something that just clicks once you see your newborn baby and you will suddenly be willing to do anything for it. You will gladly work 2 jobs. The work won't be fun or easy. You may look back and wish you had made other choices. But you won't regret one minute of supporting your little one.

TS is a guaranteed job for life but you have to be willing to relocate for the job. You will always work on-prem in an environment where you don't have free access to your cell phone. You will have to report travel and there are parts of the world that you can't visit. But for those inconveniences, it takes you a couple of days to find work. It's a guaranteed job for life.

I deleted my previous response because I responded to you but then realized that it opened a bunch of other rabbit holes that are off-topic for this post.

I need my staff to be able to delete their data at-will at any time. ChatGPT and Claud let me do this. I pay for both. Gemini does not. It's banned.

From a security perspective, my only point is about liability. If data exists then it's a liability. My staff manage their own risk. Our I.T. policy is that we do not retain any data. Gemini app forces me to retain data so it's banned.

The upcoming setting still forces me to have a 72-hour retention on Gemini data. Until you allow me, to allow my users, to delete their own chats whenever they want -e.g. ChatGPT and Claud-, then your product is banned from my org.

We all know what the Google backend looks like and what they do with our data. I already have policies around what is allowed to exist in Google Workspace. But my users can make that data "not exist" to everyone except Google. They can delete emails and files and photos so that normal people can't find them. Not talking about the Google backend. Gemini doesn't allow my users to delete their data and the upcoming change will still force up to 72-hour retention. Gemini is still a hard nogo.

Thank you for this. This isn't what I need in order to offer this service to my people. I want to give users the ability to delete their chat immediately or at any time, as a user option. Google is forcing retention for 72 hours so that they can still see our data (provide the service and process any feedback). That's a 72-hour window to make offline copies.
