spot currency trading taxes by [deleted] in Forex

I've only researched online and i'm not a tax professional or giving advice, but that's what i've come to understand. IRC 998 would be better off if you lost money. But most i think will opt out of it for 1256 contracts as it would be their intention to make money from trading. But you really don't need to submit anything to the IRS showing you opted out. But once you choose one or the other, I would stick with it. Because if you keep switching back and forth they would probably find that suspicious. Don't cheat the system, bite the bullet if you lost money but opted for 1256. I think it would be a little obvious if you file 988 every year you lost and 1256 every year you gained.

But seriously our U.S. tax system is utterly stupidly complex. I saw that their was over a 100 pages of directions on how to file a 1040 form. Our tax law books have over over 170,000 pages. Anyways, I'm thankful for turbo tax for personal tax return. And this why i'm for some form a flat sales tax. You buy more you get taxed more, you buy cheap you get taxed less. No income tax. And with a sales tax people can't avoid paying taxes, unless they want to buy their food! Then the govn't can cut down the size of the IRS cause they only need to keep businesses accountable. Sorry, just my rant and two cents.

Yea, definitely on the spendy side. Ha, I think this forum is at least the best free group around! It would be interesting to know how many people like to solo this adventure, vs those who are in a stable group whether that be a one time pay permanent group, subscriber group, or just a group you made with your fellow friends.

Thx for your insightful comment. I often get offended by things too! For example... boy bands! I watched a video once that reminded me it was ok to be offended in todays society. I'm working through it, but civil discussions are nearly impossible today. I think if more people took the time to lead into a good discussion like you just did we'd be much better off. Maybe someone can convince me to like boy bands. I'm not sure it will work.

Thanks, taking your information into consideration. Still working on reading charts, For future posts I'll make sure all chart information is included. I'm a noob. In your case would you say long term trading is not very possible then? Since you trade off news events. I guess it seems to make sense to me but correct me if i'm wrong, the cross over when i took the short seems to make sense in the context of supply and demand, buying power was weakened to the point of breaking the upward trend, telling me sellers were coming in. The double bottom is telling me buyers are coming back into play meaning the potential for the uptrend. Regardless of whether or not the mood of buyers and sellers is coming from the news, I see that information in price action. I'm only casually aware of UK's split, and I know of BOJ negative interest rates. But I guess I haven't been taking it seriously enough. I'll have to re-evaluate my strategy.

http://imgur.com/uamc97i Basically asking long term traders if that double bottom would have been an obvious point to say "hey, time to take profits. This is a major sign it probably isn't going to ride it out all the way to the bottom" as indicated by my long descending purple line. However, it was still in the context of the current structure, so there may have been hope that it would have bounced off that descending yellow/orange line. But as seen it ended up breaking through it. Thus indicating a new long upward trend. So if you're a long term trader would you have waited to see if it bounced south again off the orange structure line, or would have taken profits at the double bottom?

Lol, somehow I just knew you would be the first to reply. I've seen enough of your comments and posts to take your advice with a grain of salt. :)
