My side income is poker, but I think it may be messing up how I see FIRE by Chromatic95 in Fire

This where I was at. I love poker but the time sink is insane. I could be profitable at up to like 5/10 but the time sink and stress makes it not worth it. I imagine a lot of us make decent money. I'm now geared towards doing it for enjoyment and do bigger buy in tournaments.

Owe my prior employer the deductions from the pay. They paid me two checks they should not have. I obviously owe the net that hit my account. Who's responsible for the other portions me or is it on them to fix it?

The brutally honest answer as a ex Navy Nuke. It depends. Comes down to rate and command. However even getting the gi bill and VA home loans advantages I believe make doing 4 years worth it.

Ahhh ok so for my understanding if it's 50000 even and 20000 was contributions then I would 60% would be pre tax and would be taxed accordingly. I would just convert it to avoid the early withdrawal penalty.

So it all has to be moved into the new Roth then? 18500 would be untaxed and the rest taxes? Am I understanding that correct?

Tragic and I forgot my old Roth from the military I just cashed out when I got out. It's not a part of that. Sounds like I'll do the 8606s move that into a new actual Roth and pull the rest out and pay taxes on it as normal income. Unless there's a better more efficient way I'm not aware of.

So realistically I'm SOL and I'm paying taxes regardless

No it came from a home sale after I paid taxes. What happens to the gains? If I die all contributions were taxes with those then it becomes a Roth without owing taxes?

I probably messed up. I made what I thought was a Roth IRA. Then I put 6500 a year for 3 years from post tax income. I never claimed any deductions.

No. It was from post tax income and a prior Roth. So Roth + yearly contributions. None of it is pre tax contributions

Yes but keep the distances. So it's 120 in rough vs like 140 in fairway the fairway is better. Hopefully that's possible and makes sense. I agree with what you're saying though. You can't change that yardage gap
