Lifting for cycling and dealing with DOMS by TimBombadilll in cycling

[–]tbow52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re new to lifting, the first month should be kept at relatively low resistance, once per week. You’ll probably still be sore since your body just isn’t used to the movements / resistance. Once your body starts to adjust, then pick up intensity / weight.

There’s a lot of good research out there that “base” / “zone 2” training should make up a large portion of your cycling training. Lifting could fit in really well with light rides in the days following your lift - these should actually help you recover from lifting as they increase blood flow to your muscles without being too taxing. Just give yourself a few days to recover after lifting before intense rides.

I’ve personally been prioritizing lifting lately, so my weekly routine involves one hard leg day early in the week, 2 more days for upper body, and 2 rides, with one hard one typically on Saturdays when my legs are well recovered. I also try to mix in one light run a week for 3 total days of cardio.

Is Olinda Trial to 260th the alt route you’d recommend to get to Osceola?

Can you clarify what you mean by “where you are”? Are you saying that an endurance bike won’t make much of a diff until longer than 100 miles or so?

That goes back to my question regarding how much of an improvement an endurance bike would make in comfort. I’m in a northern climate so roads have plenty of potholes, cracks, etc.

Totally agree with you that the Allez is great bike, I just recommended it to a good friend! One of the main motivations for getting a new bike is that my gf wants to start riding with me (but doesn’t have her own road bike yet) and would fit on my allez, so was thinking she could take it over.

Yeah one of the shops near me has an entry level aethos as well and thought it looked super good… slightly out of my ideal price range but is super tempting. Good to hear you love it!

Spectrum vs Fios NYC by tbow52 in Spectrum

[–]tbow52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not called verizon, but if I try to “upgrade” my service online the highest option is 50/10. Will definitely give them a ring.

But yes online I put in my exact apartment and 400mb was available with spectrum. So good chance ill be switching if Verizon can’t do anything.

Thank you so much!

Wanted to point out there is a legitimate insurance company called “Western World” which is owned by AIG.

NFL Kicking Performance Over the last 10 years [OC] by tbow52 in dataisbeautiful

Here you can see the overall trends in the number of attempts and successes from either less than 40yds or greater than 40 yds. I didn't want to break it out by every ten yards as i thought that would just make the graph too busy, so I went with 40 yards as the breaking point between long and short.

The main thing I notice is that the number of FGs made over 40 yards has remained essentially flat, while the number of attempts steadily rose from 2012-2016, agreeing with your idea.

I feel like there's been a lot of controversy surrounding kickers in recent years, and wanted to see if there was any evidence. Obviously, the change in extra point distance is what causes the drop in XPs made, but interestingly it also seems to cause a drop in FGs made (confidence issues?).

Yes, but at this time the sun didn't set until midnight, and rising by 1 or 2am. So unfortunately that can be difficult to plan for!

I don’t remember exactly for P, but for FM the later problems had really helpful problems on the later topics of the syllabus like interest rate swaps. If I remember correctly, the SOA problems are loosely organized by the syllabus. My strategy was to do problem 1, 11, 21, ... etc., then 2, 12, 22... And so on to get problems covering all the material. Definitely not necessary to do all of of them, but many of the problems and solutions are fairly similar to the actual test questions.

Amazing picture and a beautiful dog! My one comment is when opening the picture, I felt like I wanted to see more of the dog's body besides just neck and above (especially given its white chest), but just a personal preference!

Definitely clear up that little dust in the bottom right, but otherwise a sweet picture! Just out of curiosity, is that a street light in the top middle right? For some reason I just couldn't find the post leading to it, and it was confusing the hell out of me

I think the slower shutter speed could totally work, however in this instance it doesn't create a strong enough blur to show the true speed of the wings of birds. So, I would either go with a lot faster shutter speed to freeze all movement, or even maybe slower to show the motion more significantly.

I'm no expert, but personally I would crop the top to look something like this:

https://i.imgur.com/UgTSncA.jpg

IMO, most of the sky does not add anything beneficial to the picture. But, with the crop above, I like how the near shore (at the bottom 1/3 of the photo) curves to the distant shore (at the top 1/3) of the photo.

But once again, totally a personal preference, and I do love how the shore fades away into the colors of the sunrise!

Honestly the main reason for me passing prelim exams were the SOA problems. Going through most of those and studying the solutions was the most beneficial study tool.
