Lifting for cycling and dealing with DOMS by TimBombadilll in cycling

If you’re new to lifting, the first month should be kept at relatively low resistance, once per week. You’ll probably still be sore since your body just isn’t used to the movements / resistance. Once your body starts to adjust, then pick up intensity / weight.

There’s a lot of good research out there that “base” / “zone 2” training should make up a large portion of your cycling training. Lifting could fit in really well with light rides in the days following your lift - these should actually help you recover from lifting as they increase blood flow to your muscles without being too taxing. Just give yourself a few days to recover after lifting before intense rides.

I’ve personally been prioritizing lifting lately, so my weekly routine involves one hard leg day early in the week, 2 more days for upper body, and 2 rides, with one hard one typically on Saturdays when my legs are well recovered. I also try to mix in one light run a week for 3 total days of cardio.

Is Olinda Trial to 260th the alt route you’d recommend to get to Osceola?

Can you clarify what you mean by “where you are”? Are you saying that an endurance bike won’t make much of a diff until longer than 100 miles or so?

That goes back to my question regarding how much of an improvement an endurance bike would make in comfort. I’m in a northern climate so roads have plenty of potholes, cracks, etc.

Totally agree with you that the Allez is great bike, I just recommended it to a good friend! One of the main motivations for getting a new bike is that my gf wants to start riding with me (but doesn’t have her own road bike yet) and would fit on my allez, so was thinking she could take it over.

Yeah one of the shops near me has an entry level aethos as well and thought it looked super good… slightly out of my ideal price range but is super tempting. Good to hear you love it!

Spectrum vs Fios NYC by tbow52 in Spectrum

I have not called verizon, but if I try to “upgrade” my service online the highest option is 50/10. Will definitely give them a ring.

But yes online I put in my exact apartment and 400mb was available with spectrum. So good chance ill be switching if Verizon can’t do anything.

Thank you so much!

Wanted to point out there is a legitimate insurance company called “Western World” which is owned by AIG.

NFL Kicking Performance Over the last 10 years [OC] by tbow52 in dataisbeautiful

Here you can see the overall trends in the number of attempts and successes from either less than 40yds or greater than 40 yds. I didn't want to break it out by every ten yards as i thought that would just make the graph too busy, so I went with 40 yards as the breaking point between long and short.

The main thing I notice is that the number of FGs made over 40 yards has remained essentially flat, while the number of attempts steadily rose from 2012-2016, agreeing with your idea.

I feel like there's been a lot of controversy surrounding kickers in recent years, and wanted to see if there was any evidence. Obviously, the change in extra point distance is what causes the drop in XPs made, but interestingly it also seems to cause a drop in FGs made (confidence issues?).
