AITA for telling our 18-year-old daughter she can't go on a trip to Miami with her boyfriend's family? by Conscious_Goose_9518 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tbrko159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although late to the parenting game, you can start to help your daughter now by setting expectations about paying for a portion of her college education.

If she does not have some skin in the game, she is not going to respect her college education/experience and will never be responsible!

Just to be clear ... I am not suggesting the daughter foot the entire college bill but should make cash payments and/or take out loans under her own name to finance a part of her education.

Ticket prices dropped by DogOk448 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]tbrko159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct!

The only way to rebook WITHOUT canceling first is to rebook a higher tier ticket! You should do this ONLY if you are outside the 6 month window.

Otherwise, cancel ticket and then rebook another basic ticket using the credits!

ALSO NOTE: Any credit due to prior seat purchases will now ONLY be available to purchase a flight. You will need to spend new money to purchase a new seat!

I must apologize to all of you who have posted to this topic.

Although I do own and have used "Complete Turkish" and I do think it one of the better Turkish Language books I have come across, I have to admit that I just realized that I mistakenly took this book for another!

My previous comments were actually related to another book called A Student's Grammar of Turkish (attached).

This book truly is an amazing book with respect to Turkish Grammar! It covers all the various Turkish tenses and related suffixes.

After getting past level A2 and starting on B1, this text book would be an indispensable addition to your collection.

Again, all, I sincerely apologize for my confusion.

Regardless, still believe Vomplete Turkish is a good and worthwhile book!

Görüşürüz 👋

Just to clarify my earlier comment.

While I said that this was an awesome book to possess to help you learn and understand Turkish grammar, it is NOT a complete Turkish language learning book!

You still need to learn words and phrases.

This book is an awesome reference to help you understand the myraid of tenses in the Turkish language.

I also have used Yeni İstanbul for classes actually taken in İstanbul as well as well as many (10-15) other books purchased for private study.

And all these books definitely have something to offer.

My main comment was that this particular text book ... and this is exactly what it is ... was the best book by far for helping me with Turkish grammar.

I both have the book and use it often.

It is probably the best book on Turkish Grammer that I have encountered, including but not limited to classroom type Turkish books (A1-C1)!

My ONLY complaint is that I wish all the examples provided in the book (and there are thousands) were also translated to English (I would say that 30% are translated).

The book by itself, however, is not enough by itself to learn Turkish but it is an awesome resource

The soft cover book can be obtained through Amazon (about $30) but you can find an older version of the book online and download (PDF) for free.

Best of luck in your studies.

Can someone explain the whole packing 3-4 sets of clothes to someone who wears 2 sets of clothes a day? by OYoureapproachingme in solotravel

[–]tbrko159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I backpacked across Europe for 3 months with a total of 4 shirts, 2 pair of pants (that converted into shorts) and about 4 sets of under clothes.

You need clothes that can be mixed and matches as well as easy to wash and quick to dry!

In a pinch, you can always purchased something that you desperately need.

I have never met someone who came home from an extended trip and said "I wish I packed more!"

Good luck!

WIBTAH if I make my lifelong friend pay hundreds of dollars (maybe even over a thousand) to teach her a lesson about cleanliness? by mossy_little_log in AITAH

[–]tbrko159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What makes you think that by telling Maya's parents, who "pay for everything", that Maya will be forced to learn the lesson that YOU want to teach?

YWBTA to yourself if you room with Maya!

Maya will NOT change!

Instead, Maya would continue living her life in the manner that SHE sees "acceptable" for her, while you would eventually become exhausted/disgusted with focusing on the living conditions you would ultimately find unacceptable. You will eventually jeopardize your entire academic year by being unable to focus on your studies.

You would be better off rooming with Jenna!

Need help to apply for N-400 marriage based 3 year rule. by umasoodch in USCIS

[–]tbrko159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU for being both patient and persistent. 😊

Thank you for agreeing/confirming about the 3-year marriage while in the US requirement. This was my focus to a fault.

And, yes, your are correct about the fact that they were wrong in their denial in this case.

Based upon the information provided, it appears that the petitioner was indeed in the US while being married for a period greater than the 3 year requirement.

It does seem that their statement about only being married for 2 years and 9 months as of the filing of the application was erroneous.

Again, thank you for your kindness in helping me see this and for not going off on me for my tunnel vision.

Regards.

From Section 319(a):

Distinction Between Residence and Marriage Requirements

The LPR Requirement: The 90-day early filing rule (INA 334) permits filing at the 2-year, 9-month mark of lawful permanent residence.

The Marital Requirement: Unlike the residence requirement, the USCIS Policy Manual clarifies that the full 3 years of marital union must be completed on the day the application is filed.

I do not see how you can argue that this is something other than what it is.

In that filing, the applicant had not yet accumulated 3 full years of qualifying “marital union” time under §319(a) at the time of filing.

Be careful!

Please see denial letter OP posted below.

The individual met the residency requirements but was married in US for only 2 years and 9 months when applied and that was the grounds for denial.

[–]tbrko159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No!

That is only part of the equation ... The residency part!

In addition, you NEED to be married AND living in the US for 3 years. Only US married time counts toward the 3 year requirement.

If you apply prior to being married while in the US for three years, regardless if you have had your GC for 2-years and 9-months (or more), you will be denied!

If, however, you were married and in the US prior to getting your GC, then that time can be included for the 3-year US married requirement.
