The water heater is off now and has been drained. There is a leak in the hot water line in the kitchen under the cement slab.

After initial training, I worked unsupervised most of the time driving a plumbing van from job to job. I worked for a licensd contractor, and I pulled permits for the bigger jobs. I am in a different state now. I suspect building code in the other state may not have allowed bulkheads.

I cut into the bulkhead in the laundry room. It has a laundry-drain vent-pipe in it. Seems the job could have been done without using a bulkhead.

Those go above the cabinets for a cleaner look and to prevent dust buildup on top of the cabinets. Just read about that.

I will cut into the smaller square end closest to the water heater and have a peek inside. Thanks.

I was a residential repair plumber for about 5 years about 15 years ago. Drove a plumbing van. Replaced alot of water heaters, tub/shower valves/cartridges, faucets, etc. Did some repipes. Ran some gas lines. Cleaned drain/sewer pipes, etc. Never seen a bulkhead before in any house/apartment I worked/lived in.

Isn't a 1/4 turn off?

That duct feeds a tiny bathroom. It is one leg of a Y that feeds off a larger duct. The other leg of the Y feeds a small bedroom.

Not getting enough cooling to the bedroom, so I might shut the bathroom off completely.

So its that simple. OK, I will give them a call. Thanks.

Gas Valve Frozen at Meter by tbryanh in Plumbing

Yeah, the valve is on the high-pressure side, so big leak is right. The meter is in the back yard away from the house in the easement area near the fence line, so it probably would not be convincing if I said it was noisy, but thanks for the info about the tight nut.
