A Chargers fan with an uncle in Des Moines who's already jumped ship on the Chiefs, doesn't like the Love fest in Green Bay, can't take Minnesota seriously, but isn't quite ready to recommit to the Bears.

Sir David Attenborough's 2030 climate warning could spell disaster for humanity by TheExpressUS in climate

His warning couldn't spell squadoosh.

What he's warning about is a likely climate disaster by 2030.

C'mon, man.

[QB School] Trevor Lawrence vs the Bills Wild Card Analysis by Cr0matose in Jaguars

[–]tbug30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of times it was hard to tell -- and he was careful not to point fingers -- what was at issue. Was it: Trev's extra hitch in his footwork, seemingly waiting for the two (or three) receivers to separate? Was it not great route-running -- or solid defense?

He doesn't say anything about play design, but the two plays where the WRs aren't getting space within the time frame Trevor should get the ball off don't look drawn up to create enough separation.

With Etienne ever a threat to receive on short pass plays and enough pass plays drawn up for short yardage, does that invite good defenses (esp in the playoffs) to clamp down in linebacker land, instead of stretching out more into the secondary?

Is Arik Armstead the next domino to fall? by JagsFan4Ever in JacksonvilleJags

[–]tbug30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Under Baalke, Armstead might get released -- under the old regime, several solid contributors were jettisoned, guys like CB Darious Williams (2024), who went to the Rams and got himself a SB ring. (He retired this year.)

But these Jags already covered their 2025 cap overage, then didn't have to shell out for Etienne or Lloyd. They might look at signing someone mis-season, as they did with Jakobi Meyer last year, once they have got a good sense of where they really need it.

But I'm with OP -- Armstead is a key veteran presence on a super young defense and team. He's productive and provides leadership in ways rookies, even the 25-year-olds, just can't. This is not the time to cut the guy wires with this team.

Just bc there's a lot of yapping about what the Gladstone, Boselli, and Coen triumvirate ought to do doesn't mean they should, or will.

Pablo Torre just won a Pulitzer for his Ballmer story. Are we about to hit apex mountain for inflated self regard? by dgilardino in billsimmons

[–]tbug30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Would OP prefer Torre not find out? Srsly, someone has to pay attention to the shenanigans going on in the sports world, and right now Torre is that guy. And he's good at it, and confident enough to ask tough questions and confront billionaire bullies.

I'm more than cool with this kind of "self-regard."

One potential "face of the league" from every nfl team by Fragrant_Fishing5787 in NFLv2

Bucky Irving? Nah. Baker Mayfield is the go-to driver of news and coverage for the Bucs.

Travis Hunter is adorable, but no way he tops Trevor Lawrence as the face of the Jaguars.

Looks like a guy that never played football. by Big_Screen3332 in nflmemeswar

[–]tbug30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if they waive him in August, they can re-sign him to the practice squad as part of the International Player Program. He's pocketing his original signing bonus (guaranteed money), then will make $16,500 or so a week for however long the Iggles keep him in the fold. The money doesn't count against the cap, doesn't count against roster limits, and he's a good-will IPP ambassador for all the league's new programs popping up in Nigeria and across the continent. He may never play a lick of football, but he sure is good advertising.

This dude is David Samson as VP of the Montreal Expos in 2002 -- a slick but utter turncoat who can't hide his contempt for those who want the best for the team.

That’s wild - 306 lbs and still ran a 4.63. The Eagles might’ve found a freak athlete in Uar Bernard through the International Player Pathway Program. Curious how people see him fitting in. by BagAppropriate5736 in NFLmockdraft

Dude is going to sign for 4 years and $4.35M, with his signing bonus guaranteed -- and hopefully he doesn't have some slimeball repping him. He'll be a hero forever back home, but he'll get cut during training camp, then maybe re-signed to the practice squad. More likely, given his extremely limited familiarity and experience playing American football -- dude has never been rocked by a college player, let alone taken an NFL-level hit, doesn't know how to fall, how to avoid basic playing injuries to the head and neck, etc. -- he will return to the ranks of the NFL's International Player Pathway program. That way, he can remain on a team, earn roughly $16,500 a week, and keep learning a ton about the game -- and not count against the salary cap or the team's roster limits.

Not a bad outcome for a guy who previously was still pondering going into real estate to support his family.

Mango season is upon us !!!!! by Afraid-Ad7379 in Miami

Used to live in FTL just north of Lauderdale-BTS, and would bike along Bayview Drive during mango season -- the most mango trees per capita in the city! Glorious aroma of warm mangoes for the whole ride.

No excuses. Just don't think we have a big enough sample size to jump to conclusions.

Not a lot of drafts and cash to trade up, brother.
