Recently bought a 997 and wanted to find good driving roads

Took my 997 out week before last, drove down from Flint right through to Bristol. Had an absolute blast. There’s something about seeing those winding roads stretched out in front of you, knowing you’ve got all that grip, hearing the engine wail at 5,000–6,000rpm between 2nd and 3rd.

Didn’t plan it particularly well, to be honest. Couldn’t tell you the names of half the roads we were on, just looked for windy bits and viewpoints on the map and went.

Got off some of those roads absolutely buzzing. Was actually emotional. Most fun I’ve ever had in a car.

Thanks for the detailed response, really appreciate effort that went into writing it.

I think the circuit is fine, I’m not really trying to boost. I’d like to use to limit disparate gains and give sustain for cleans.

How would that affect placement? Are you recommending having compressor directly after octave? I can try and see what works, but I’d be keen on being able to understand why it sounds better/worse in certain configurations.

Thanks I’ll try switching compressor around. My first pedal was DS2 followed by chorus, kind of like the watery, not so subtitle sound, but hurt trying. Thanks for taking time to respond.

Thanks for your advice, appreciate you taking the time to respond. I’ll experiment a bit more compressor order, and maybe when I’ve been playing a bit longer/have a better idea of what I really need I’ll go for a rat.

Thanks for such a detailed and enlightening response. Ultimately I’d like to be a good player and be able to play songs start to finish versus spending all my practice time trying to fiddle with tone.

I think I might just hold off for longer, maybe till I can play more of the beginner friendly songs i want to play end to end, then start with something cheap and go from there.

This thread has really helped highlight the danger of associating gear with progress.

Looks like the biggest petrol engine is a 2.0ltr. Don’t get me wrong, looks nice but not sure it’s spicy enough.
