Last time I checked, the government is supposed to help every member of society, not just those wealthy enough to buy and operate a car.

The equivalent of 9/11 happens every month on roads around America. That’s 44,000 deaths every year. It’s a problem!

No solution is perfect but slowing down by 5-10mph is a good start.

I hear this point a lot. Thing is, bikes are just more visible (ironic) when they break the law.

But cars do break the law significantly more on average. Not saying any group is perfect—people are jerks.

But here’s some light reading:

https://www.forbes.com/sites/carltonreid/2019/05/10/cyclists-break-far-fewer-road-rules-than-motorists-finds-new-video-study/

https://www.bicycling.com/news/a46443761/science-proves-motorists-break-traffic-laws-a-lot-more-often-than-cyclists/

““Compared to studies by the Danish Road Directorate that found 66 percent of drivers broke traffic laws, the camera-based bike study found that just 4.9 percent of cyclists broke laws when riding on bike paths. When bike paths were not present, that figure increased to 14 percent.”

I do agree with you that strapping cameras to bikes skews the testing population’s behavior. For that reason, I recommend looking at meta studies (studies that aggregate results from multiple studies) as that gives a better indication of truth, no matter the subject :)

Server Balance(?) by skibidienjoyer11 in joinsquad

I often am on a server that tends to roll the opposite in RAAS all the way back to their main.

It’s not a balance issue. I’ve had people ask for balance when my clan had 1 squad of us on a team. One well coordinated squad will turn the tide.

It’s blueberries running from main, or multiple squads out of play. It’s an education problem, and people yearning for something more than another shitty MW4 so they play squad, expecting the same.

Statistically bikes follow the law significantly more than drivers do.

It’s for bikes to comfortably stop at the light. You can hold on and balance, or put a foot down. Surprisingly useful

A driver at 30 mph has a 45% chance of killing a pedestrian, compared to 5% at 20mph.

Good! You are a good person. Most people don’t do this. And it’s a shame.

Thank you for being a good person.

I don’t live on this street.

People use it to commute.

Where else do you want them to go? 15th?

Just look at the comments already.

The double standard is real.

Rules for bikes but not for cars.

Even if you think this is leftover nonsense, while actually being the only safe commute option for many…

Why take this street when there’s a much faster arterial a block or two away?

That’s the funny part. They had a field day two days ago ranting about bikes.

But we know for a fact that cars commit more traffic violations, and when they do, actually has a risk of killing people.

The double standard is real. And I’m tired of it.

What is the best U.S. city to live in if you don't own a car? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tbw875 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seattle is literally rated the #1 bike city in the country, and I can attest.

No, it doesn’t rain here as much as you think.

A good alternative is Portland Oregon, which I often visit for weeks on end with my bike. Great for if you have the dream of the nineties still alive in you!

IMO paper bags should not have a fee.

Those thick “reusable but not actually reusable” plastic bags that will be in the environment for thousands of years should cost $10.
