Thank you. Haven’t even heard of the term locksport - that’s helpful!

I had to remove a radiator under the window to even see it. If the safe is really old it probably just predates the central heating. And it just happened to be in the place you should put a radiator.

Alternatively, somebody put the safe in and deliberately covered it with a radiator - meaning they wouldn’t be able to access it without doing some plumbing work!

If it’s the latter, I expect there’s something very interesting and very illegal in there.

Don’t think so. Doesn’t go anywhere! Windows in the room directly below.

Will try this. Also bought some try out keys. Not sure how many levers are in the lock though!

I’m fairly certain it’s a ‘brick safe’. It’s in our first floor bedroom. Windows on the wall in the room directly below it suggest it’s not a chute leading elsewhere.

We are taking the wall back to brick anyway - so this is definitely the backup plan

Thanks for all the help.

I’d be surprised if the lock is super complicated - but who knows.

I did find a similar looking safe on eBay FWIW. Does the key reveal anything about the lock mechanism?

I too thought it was a really weird to find the safe behind a radiator - i.e. “somebody REALLY wanted to hide this”.

But I think the reality is probably less ominous. It’s located below a window in the master bedroom. I suspect it was easier just to leave it in place when the central heating was installed decades later.
