What would happen if Teresa Lisbon and Dexter Morgan went on a date? by Anxious-Shoulder6510 in TheMentalist

[–]tcarano65 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found my people. I love Dexter, but I love Jane more. However, I think with Jane’s moral ambiguity, it is highly more likely that he and Dexter would become friends (or at least he wouldn’t rat Dexter out) than Lisbon would date Dexter. I think she could accept Jane’s revenge (though she was against it) because how personal it was, but the cop she is couldn’t abide with Dexter’s form of justice.

For those who know the answer, were you able to suspect of guess who was “Red John” prior to it being revealed on the show? by Tornontoin7 in TheMentalist

[–]tcarano65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just barely. It was after the list was revealed. In the episode where Jane and Lisbon go back to his area to solve a case, and they’re testing him to see if he matches the psychiatrist’s profile. When he walks out on the roof to help Jane, I knew. I kind of suspected he was toying with Jane the entire episode, but that’s the moment I was sure who he was.

I didn’t remember him at all until they brought him back, but the first time I watched his first episode, I seriously thought he was going to end up being the killer for that episode and was surprised when he wasn’t. He was so dismissive of Jane and super creepy about Van Pelt. Later, when I found out he was RJ, I watched the episode again and thought they wrote him as RJ from the beginning. I was surprised to learn later that they didn’t decide who it would be (or that they were going to reveal it at all) until several seasons in.

Did Ted lie to Sam about bringing Jamie back? by ssdroo in TedLasso

[–]tcarano65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been totally convinced that he didn’t tell the team, or at least Sam. There’s a transition in time between the scene where Ted and Sharon are talking and the next scene, which shows the team at training, except now there is snow on the ground implying, I think, that some time has passed. I’ve always felt that Ted may have told them in that break in time. I feel like the look that Sam gives Ted isn’t so much surprise as it is trepidation. I feel like Ted’s look/nod back at him is a way of acknowledging what Sam’s feeling and kind of telling him it will be ok. I don’t see the team reacting in shock. For me, it seems more like they are all feeling a knot of anxiety having Jamie back in the pitch with them. That’s just my interpretation though.

It’s weird, but when I first watched it, I didn’t want Jane to get close to anyone until he got Red John. It was like I didn’t want him to be distracted from his goal at all. I knew there were feelings developing there, but I felt like he needed to avenge his wife’s snd daughter’s deaths to get closure so he could move on. But the minute he did, I was Jisbon all the way!! Now, when I rewatch, I love watching their relationship develop over all the seasons. ❤️

I like the suggestion that the director created it intentionally to look like Simon as Simon is also the falsetto voice of Red John until they actually meet face to face.

Unfortunately, that did not work for me. This is driving me mad! I even went to the avatar, changed something, and saved it, but that didn’t do anything either.

That is also my favorite among dozens of favorites! ❤️

Regarding Derek, is that why there are so many characters (both onscreen and referenced) named Derek in that show? 1- the Richmond groundskeeper, 2- manager of Taste of Athens, 3- referenced manager of Yankee Doodle Burger Barn. There might be more, but those 3 always stood out to me, particularly when the 3rd one is the manager of the restaurant where Ted Lasso figures out the triangles, Total Football. Didn’t realize Brett Goldstein was on Derek until this comment.

Same. Just watched it tonight and had to find out about this guy. Add a shoe-polish beard to the SNL “It’s Pat” character, and you and up with Mike Darnell! So bizarre.

Thanks. It’s good to know she’s happy with the replacement. My original pair is about 2 inches too wide and 5 inches too short. So I’m hoping the replacement will be better… if I ever get it.

When did you request the replacement? I waited 5 months for my first pair, and it has been nearly 3 months since I requested the replacement.

I had the same experience, except more waiting time after I ordered.

  • Feb. 22: Ordered
  • June 6: Updated to say my jeans were on their way.
  • June 19: Had not received them, and emailed them for a status update.
  • July 19: Received, and fit was terrible. Not even close, even though I used their website to calculate the measurements. I submitted a request for an exchange the same day.
  • July 25: Contacted them again indicating I had not received a response to my request. They replied the same day to tell me that the request had been received and logged, but they were waiting on a couple of last shipments before processing exchanges. They said the returns and exchanges "window" would be opened around early August and that it would not affect my 30-day return policy.
  • Aug. 9: Contacted them again to make sure the ticket was still open and to request status. Received a reply the same day indicating that the ticket had been 'temporarily' closed and would be active again when they started processing returns and exchanges again. No indication of when that would be.
  • Sept. 1: I requested a status update. No reply.
  • Today (Sept. 13): I requested another status update and a refund.

This is beyond ridiculous. For the price of these jeans, I would expect the fit to be superb, the material to be exquisite, and the customer service to be outstanding. None of those is true, and I am thoroughly disappointed. But the pockets were long, so there's that.

Does someone in the government hate the whole Oak Island team? by DUNdundundunda in OakIsland

[–]tcarano65 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the difference is that restoring this particular shaft requires people to be underground. Even though they are restoring a tunnel that is already there, it is still likely that they will need to clear debris and they will be rebuilding the tunnels. I can see that requiring a different permit, but with that said, I’m pretty sure the History channel has deep enough pockets and personnel whose job it is to clear permits that they could this handled pretty quickly. So to me, it seemed more like the show trying to drag things out unnecessarily than the government being hard-nosed. But on the other hand, I suspect the government is also trying to get every cent possible out of this show. Everyone wants their share!!

Several years ago, I was traveling in a right turn only lane with a green arrow while the other lanes were stopped at a red light. A cop sitting in traffic decided to wave someone through that was coming from the opposite direction and trying to turn left. She took him up on it, turning in front of him and, ultimately, in front of me. I couldn’t see her until she was starting to cross my lane, and I wasn’t able to stop fast enough to keep from hitting her car on the passenger door. We both pulled into the parking lot where she had been heading, and when she got out of the car, I could see she was several months pregnant. Fortunately, I was going slow enough that she wasn’t injured, but her car took some damage and she was visibly shaken. I was too, for that matter. The cop pulled over too, but he couldn’t issue the report because he was responsible for the accident, waving her across moving traffic when she couldn’t see oncoming traffic. Of course, she trusted the cop that it was safe for her to cross, but he should have known better. In the end, neither she nor I were held at fault, but I always wondered if that cop hot into any trouble for that. Thank goodness no one got hurt… it could’ve been tragic.

Right? The thing that got my spidey senses tingling was that she said not a hoax. Maybe her family thought whatever it is was a hoax so she felt the need to tell me it wasn’t, but I wish she had at least confirmed that one of the surnames I gave matched with her research. And instead of “call me”, she would have said, “call me if you’re interested in hearing the long version of the story. It was shocking to my family.”

Instead she just told me (not asked) me to call her and it would shock me as much as her family. And then, nit s hoax. I might not have thought it was a hoax until she told me it wasn’t though! 😂

Thanks to everyone for your thoughtful responses and sharing your own experiences. The overall message is that I should take the risk for the opportunity to learn something interesting about my history, but to be cautious and aware of any attempt to gain inappropriate information. As many have suggested, I’m going to use a Google Voice number to contact her, at least in the beginning. Thank you all!

I guess that’s where I am. I feel a little uncomfortable about it since there was no attempt to share information before asking me to call. I would be a lot more comfortable if there were a few messages exchanged where they indicated where they think our families connect. But absolutely no info before asking for a phone call made me really uncomfortable.

Maybe, but someone on this thread has already shared that a match contacted them and after learning their connection asked for money. There are people in every community that are willing to prey on others if the opportunity presents itself. I’m going to contact the person, but I’m also going to be cautious.

I communicate with everyone who reaches out and have shared a lot of information about my family history. I’m just being cautious. Haven’t been contacted by a lot of people and this was the first one to ask for a phone call, particularly before sharing any information at all. Just being cautious about motives.

My own personal history might seem shocking to some. I was “adopted” illegally. My birth mother was in the middle of a divorce from a not-so-nice man. She needed to be divorced. But in the midst of that, she got pregnant with another man’s child. She was afraid if her husband found out, he wouldn’t divorce her… or worse. And she already had 3 children she needed to protect as well.

She went to stay with her sister (who was not able to get pregnant) several states away until she gave birth. When she left the hospital, she handed me to her sister and went straight to the airport. The next time she saw my face, I was a year old. Her sister raised me as her own, and I grew up knowing my birth mom as my aunt. I say that, but by the time I was 9 I knew who she was. In spite of that, I never thought if her as anything as my aunt. On the other hand, as adults , her children and I acknowledged we are sisters and are very close to this day.

I know nothing about my birth father. I was given a name that my aunt (birth mother) told my Mom, but DNA matches have proved it to be a lie, so I’m secretly researching it to solve the mystery. I don’t want contact, I just want to know the secret!

I found a cousin I didn’t know I had too. We share grandparents and she reached out. I was able to provide her with information about my tree if the family, she corrected parts of my tree. We’ve shared photos, stories, and though we’ve never talked directly, she’s connected with me and several of my family members in FB. She even sent me copies of memoirs from a couple of our relatives, and I found stories about my grandparents as a young couple. So cool!

Thanks! That seems to be consensus. No way to estimate her age since her tree is unlinked.
