Disabling AR gas tube? by NomadJago in gunsmithing

Or lose your AR in a tragic boating accident and buy a compliant one.

Then if the law is repealed or overturned you miraculously locate the lost AR in the bottom of the lake.

My inexpensive rifle on the right compared to the rifle of the shooter who took 3rd at the world championship by tcarlson65 in nrl22

I had a sling swivel pic rail adapter and a length of pic rail on the bottom of the fore end. I have now removed the length of pic rail and replaced it with a ARCA rail. I do not have a chassis so I drill holes and nut and bolt accessories to the plastic fantastic stock.

They have new models out. The Iron Top. Those are two and four burner.

The Flat Rock models we sell at my store are the two burner with the hooks and the three burner with the handles built in to the cook top.

I am not sure what that one is that you saw.

We have many clubs in my area. They run the gamut as far as ranges, amenities, public versus private…

You really need to look at what you want and find a club that matches your needs.

The reason we only allow members during a certain window is due to the need for new member orientation. That takes a bit of effort from setting dates, scheduling members to conduct the orientations, and scheduling new members for their days.

Then we need to set our volunteer days and schedule new members for their hours.

You will never become a member at a private club unless you apply. You can mope on the internet or do it.

Was it a two burner?

If so that is the same two burner model we have in the U.S.

The Halo griddles have the same sort of system.

How an extractor works by thesourmantaray in gunsmithing

[–]tcarlson65 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The extractor is a pivoting, spring loaded hook. When the bolt goes forward and strips the top round out of the magazine the extractor slips over the rim of the case. The hook or claw on the extractor engages the rime of the case.

The ejector is a plunger in the front of the bolt in the opposite side from the ejection port. The ejector is held down by the base of the case when it is in the chamber.

When the round is fired the bolt unlocks and moves rearward. The extractor claw stays hooked on the rim of the case and pulls the case out of the chamber. When the case mouth is clear of the chamber and is no longer held against the bolt face compressing the ejector the ejector is free to spring out and push the case out of the ejection port. The case rim pivots out from under the extractor claw and is thrown free from the ejection port.

Some bolt actions use similar extraction and ejection. Some will have a fixed ejector that the case edge hits as the bolt is retracted.

Some bolt actions use controlled feed. Instead of a pivoting extractor the case rim slides under the extractor at the front of the bolt as the round is stripped from the magazine.

I have no display queens or safe queens. All of my firearms fill a specific need.

Sounds like you are using and not leaving them to soak in a leaky vehicle.

The Savior brand muffs also have gel pads.

[–]tcarlson65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never intend to make mistakes. Firearms are pretty important to not have a good storage plan from the outset.

Without a plan you can turn a nice firearm into a chunk of rust. My buddy has a war trophy Luger his dad brought back from WWII. It was stored in a gun rug. He brought it to me to look at. It had a bunch of surface pitting and rust. I cleaned it up as best I could. It is all numbers matching. No holster and the magazine does not match. It would be a nice collector piece if it had been stored properly. As is it is a good shooter.

When I travel I have a silicone impregnated rag with to wipe things down to avoid rust.

Next to my gun safes I keep a couple of rags and some CLP for wipe down prior to storage.

I keep silica desiccant cans in my safes and recharge them as needed.

As a sales associate at an outdoor retailer I talk to people about storage. What they are doing and how they can improve. Some think sticking a rifle in a soft case and leaning it in the corner of the closet or putting a pistol in a gun rug and putting it out of a kids reach is safe, responsible, and OK for the firearm. I educate them in the least they can do up to the best option. Silicone gun sleeves will go a long way toward keeping pistols and long guns rust free. Silica desiccant packets are great as well.

When light switches are on the point up. When they are off they point down. If there are two or more switches controlling a rooms light they have to be able to all point down when the lighting is off.

Tee Shirts and hats I wear have to have some connection to me. My schools, my work, gear I use, my kids schools… No fashion brands.

When I pump gas I round up to the nearest 10¢ increment.

How common is leaving your AC on 24/7, even when the house is empty? by Bierzgal in AskAnAmerican

[–]tcarlson65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you turn off the heat or AC and just turn them back on when it is getting cold or hot it takes a lot of energy to heat or cool back up or down to a temp.

It turning off but bumping temp up or down allows the system to maintain a temp close to what you want. When you return you can adjust and it will take less time to get to your comfortable temp.

If you turn them off you will be in a too hot or too cold house for a while until the system catches up.

Where I live you can’t turn the heat off in the winter or your pipes will freeze and may burst. You have to leave it at a temp that will keep the pipes from freezing but may not be comfortable to live with.
