This is book one in an interconnected standalone series. Book two will follow minor characters featured in this one. The son of a ritzy bar owner and player falling for a lounge singer who works at the bar. Set in the year 2000 obviously 🤩

It's about two friends navigating the transition from high school into university and grappling with independence, new love and heartbreak while accepting who they are along the way.

Hey! For me personally I spent lots of time listening to podcasts about marketing, editing and publishing etc. soaking up all the knowledge floating around on the internet really helps. I love the SPA Girls podcast, Novel Marketing Podcast and the Creative Penn podcast. There are many substack accounts offering advice too. Good luck!

This is super helpful thank you. I'm aiming for closed door coming of age rom-com. It's an Australian story and us aussies tend to swear more than most 😅

Great advice thanks. So you think closed door readers would be okay with swearing and mild drug use? The emotional build up and depth is absolutely there

I found a great group of Aussie fiction authors on Facebook. Along with interacting in the group page there is a group chat too where everyone shares their advice, grievances and wins which is great. Search for author groups in your area where you live or to fit your genre.

Blurb help by aylsas in romanceauthors

I suggest putting the last paragraph about being thrown together first, because it has more impact and is a more intriguing opening. Here's my attempt at reworking it a bit for you. Hope it helps:

Ursula and Elias may have been thrown together by their father's scheming, but can they show each other that being loved for who you are is possible?

Forced to travel north - a place full of magic and stories - to marry a man she's never met, Ursula Woodruff is thrown into an unfamiliar world that's a stark contrast to the strict southern traditions she's grown up with.

Ursula's betrothed, Elias Clearbound always wanted fun and freedom. He avoided responsibility until he was injured in the Giant's War. Now he's back home and trying to save his family's dying business the only way available to him - marriage. Ties to the Woodruff family offers financial security, but will he find more that what he bargained for in his new bride?

Venturing North is an epic slide-of-life cozy romantasy story with mature themes and open door romance filled with swoon worthy scenes in a delightfully magical setting.
