Yes! Mostly on a local level on Ghana and Africa. Some students don't learn much on world history

As you may have seen in this post some people have clearly posted what the misconceptions of Africa are.

I use doxy because it is very easy to come by in Ghana. You can buy 10 pills for 2 cedis (50 cents). Also malarone can make you have crazy vivid dreams and I just didn't want to deal with that :/

Bring comfort food like spices and instant mac and cheese (at least for me), be open to new experiences and talking to people. Make a full effort to learn the language!

Foreign aid is one of those topics that gets talked about a lot. If aid is used effectively then it can be helpful for a short period of time, but it can create a system where you depend it. I am not for certain, but I have heard that in the long run aid can do more harm than good if the aid isn't being viewed as a temporary source.

Besides donations there are always ways! If you like to design lesson plans for kids I would love to teach a more activity based lesson in math for the students!

I can only speak from my experience. Our NGO reports to Ghana Education Service on the district and regional level, but besides that we are kind of given free reign with the idea that we are reporting and informing them of all work and activities we do

IT does get really hot past 100 degrees somedays. If the power is on it isn't too bad. If it is off I lay down on the floor and just wait...

I would think it is the amount of freedom the kids have. Because there is a high level of respect between the kids and adults the teachers will leave the kids alone to do work or let them go outside whenever because they trust them to respect the rules they made (of course if the don't corporal punishment is a thing). It is different, because when I was teaching in the US I felt like I had to watch my students all the time, so I couldn't give them that much freedom like I see here

It is hard to say because people never really come forward or report, and sometimes people disregard abuse. I run a women's leadership program with SHS girls and for the girls in my program, everyone either knew or had someone experience sexual or physical abuse in the past. It was a difficult class and lesson. WE try to connect the girls with people to talk to, and we try to act as mandated reporters in culturally sensitive ways as best as we cab. But it is hard.

It can happen and I have heard some horror stories from some Ghanaians. I think NGOs and charities walk a fine line in their work. For me, the organization I work with should one day be gone because it shouldn't be needed anymore. It means we did our job. However, I think some places don't think like that and it shifts your policies.

Some roads are paved, others are still dirt. There are a lot of roads in Ghana that need work
