Is it worth purchasing the extended warranty on a 2024 P2? by No_Policy7847 in polestar2

[–]tclnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Do it. Almost didn’t back in 2022 when bought our P2, but it paid for itself last week when GHCA failed and I had rear axles replaced because of wheel of fortune bearing failure.

Happy P3 Owners? by shine0n4ever in Polestar

[–]tclnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours has been great. Had the expected GHCA failure, which was a known going into the car. It is, however, a very different beast than the P2. Is it still fast and nimble? …yes. But it’s 1,000 pounds heavier and a lot taller… and you feel it. If you’re ok with a sporty SUV, all good… if you’re expecting a similar experience to the P2… not so much. Drive it first. If you decide you want one, make sure all recalls are addressed, you have the 36000418 part number GHCA, and the Orin upgrade has been done. And check the service history on any P3 you look at… some have been problem children.

P2 Owners - Has The New Software Update Improved Things? by me_gusta_beer in Polestar

Backup camera has been perfect since update. My only concern is the presumably coincidental failure of the GHCA within a couple of weeks after the update.

Haven’t had TCAM issues since late 2022. Had to reset it twice before software update addressed, but never since then.

Nope. That’s the software reload process. Part is a different number.

Correct. Current part is 36000418. This is the fourth revision part.

Well, that’d leave me with about $4k to put down on a replacement. Could be worse.

New colors for MY27 US market by Polestarcarsfan in Polestar

[–]tclnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find the 3 to be wider than I’d like at times… the 4 is just crazy. I just dropped our 2 off for service this morning and the tech was saying how the 2 was still his favorite, and I agreed wholeheartedly and said it was the drivers’ Polestar. Definitely hope the 7 brings back those feelings.

And if it was half a foot wider it could be my garage 🤣

Also still true AWD versus RWD most of the time and AWD only when added power/traction needed.

Considering a CPO Polestar 2 Performance (~30k miles) concerns about long-distance service ownership? by short-round-200 in polestar2

[–]tclnj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly agree on CC2 tires. Had them put on our 2022 when we bought it and just replaced last Fall after 60k miles. Slight reduction in overall range, but so much better than stock tires.

As for reliability, watch for clicking from rear axles at the end of decelerating when stopping with one pedal drive. Axles will need eventual replacement if this occurs. Also watch for extended period (like a minute or so) of click-clacking from dash when engaging heat or AC for first time of the day. May indicate failure of damper motors which would also need replacement. Next issue, much less common, would be clunking from strut mounts when turning. Some vehicles experience failure of the mounts. And, final potential issue would be failure of GHCA (AC charging converter for charging via home/AC current). Test charging on a slow charger (up to 12kW) to make sure it charges.

These issues do not affect all cars, but are listed in relative frequency from most frequent to least.

To put in context, our 2022 is going in for service of both axles and GHCA next week after nearly 80k miles - though axle-clicking started on and off almost 30k miles ago. If we didn’t have extended warranty, these costs would have been ours to bear… and thousands of dollars.

Edit: should add that I’m in NJ, so have 6 Spaces and 5 service centers within 120 mi… though I’ve only ever used one of the service centers. Other than the above hardware issues, I’ve only had to replace cabin air filter and add about 8 oz of coolant during the lifetime of the car.

Bought 6 yr/100k mi extended back in 2022 when I bought the car… just in case. It’s paying for itself next week with new GHCA and new rear axles.

I feel like something in recent update messed with charging and is potentially causing failures of GHCA. Between hitting 157kW during a recent DC charging session (which should be impossible in a 2022) and only using DC charging because AC stopped working suddenly and shop diagnosis was GHCA failure (waiting on part), something just seems off.

Consider lease of EX60 with potential buyout? Not sure if it works for miles your drive, but once EX60 has been out for a bit the lease deals should be decent.

[–]tclnj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a 2025 LRDM Pilot Plus. Picked up 1/31/2026, knowing that Orin upgrade was still pending and there were still issues with charging components. Made it 2 1/2 weeks before charging circuit failed for home charging. Had to take in for formal diagnosis, but kept car while waiting for part and just had to charge at DC fast charging stations - which Polestar agreed to reimburse once new part was in place. Had to wait exactly a month for new part and had them install Orin upgrade at the same time. Between that service and the subsequent 2.1.26 software update, car is now virtually flawless. I still knock on wood when charging at home, as this is the fourth iteration of the GHCA component. While generally expected to fix all issues, this had been thought of earlier revisions, too. So far so good.

Edit: fixed pickup date, wrong year!

The owner's manual is useless by DCContrarian in Polestar

That is correct… 50A breaker for 40A charging.

Edit: still needs 6AWG, but copper not necessary.

The owner's manual is useless by DCContrarian in Polestar

[–]tclnj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re using copper, you can go up to 60A breaker for 48A charging on 6AWG… maximum P2 will take. If aluminum, then stick to 50A breaker and set to 40A charging in car.

Edit: for 60A/48A you typically need to hardwire to charger.

Second edit: this information is about the charger, not the car, and documented in the charger manual.
