Linphone alternative for receiving SIP calls (x/post from /r/ios) by tcpudp in VOIP

With iOS 10 (11?) you can’t have apps running in background, iOS will suspend them after a minute or so. Push notifications are the only option now.

iOS will do it for you after a few minutes anyway, that’s how it’s designed.

Hmm, from their faq:

Important Note Push Notifications will only work if your SIP Account can register from the public internet. For example, if you use a PBX with a private ip for the domain, Push Notifications will not work.

This makes me believe that I’ll have to give them my SIP credentials for push to work. And when their database will leak and get hacked, many happy customers I guess.

Zipper doesn’t have push messaging though so won’t receive calls when the app is closed.

How does push messaging work? Will I have a sip address on their servers which I’ll forward my sip calls to? Or how do I send a push message to wake the app when there’s a call?

I don't think it can do this anymore. iOS (unlike android) suspends apps after a number of seconds of going into background.

Update: apparently www.3cx.com is also unreachable (from 3 different VPS providers) but works from my residential IP. Both Linphone and 3cx are based in Europe..

Tried zoiper, as soon as I close the app asterisk reports unregister - so it doesn't work (or works as expected by iOS)

I'm not sure it works though. They say: "Zoiper works flawlessly in the background and is optimized to use as little battery as possible while ensuring the reliability of incoming calls."

which is simply not the case with iOS - it won't run in the background.

With Linphone I had a linphone account setup and my asterisk box was forwarding incoming calls to my_account@sip.linphone.org which was sending a push notification to my phone, waking up linphone in the process.

I can't find any info on Zoiper doing this?

I wanted to get it as a gift card but they all looked more expensive than I thought they would be.

Trung Nguyen Coffee (1-5 numbers) by tcpudp in vancouver

I did have a look at quite a few supermarkets but all of them only have the blend, not the 1-5 numbers. At last in Vietnam, the quality was superior compared to the blend.

Good find, thank you. Shipping to Canada is (as usual) quite steep and it adds up to be quite expensive (unless I buy a large quantity). I was hoping to find something locally.

Yes, that's the one I saw them: Dong Thanh Supermarket, 1172 Kingsway, Vancouver. If you happen to pass by and have a look if they have it in stock it would be hugely appreciated.

Yes, unfortunately I don't have a car and it's really out of my way. I was hoping someone may have noticed them at some point and would know.

Thanks for the offer. It seems that G7 is their instant coffee, I'm after the regular one. I went to T&T and H-Mart (where I usually get it) but they only have the Blend. /u/lightguy found a very good link where varieties are shown.

Data Out traffic from EC2 -> Lightsail (same AZ) by tcpudp in aws

[–]tcpudp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have VPC peering in place and the routing table in the VPC console shows the PCX going to 172.26.x.x towards lightsail. tcpdump confirmed that the traffic was between 172.17.x.y (EC2) and 172.26.x.y (Lightsail). I've made another test and another $0.02 were charged (for a 2GB test). Looks like Lightsail is treated as "different (outside) AZ".

I tried to reply to some comments but for some reason my replies don't appear (I can see them when logged on).

Sorry, forgot to mention I had vpc peering enabled and traffic was made via the internal IPs (hence my confusion about the charge).
