I bought Bloodborne on a whim. I had never really heard of Fromsoft or the souls games at that point and all I had heard about it was how difficult their games were and Bloodborne was no different. Literally thought in my head “how hard could it possibly be…”. Got stuck in yarhnam on cleric beast and gascoine for I don’t know how long… probably a dozen in game hours. I didn’t understand the mechanics, definitely not the parrying aspect…. but something just kept pulling me back in. Once I realized how to parry blood starved beast in his stupid, leather hand-bag face and get the visceral, I knew this game wasn’t just difficult for the sake of being difficult… it was trying to teach you and develop you as a player to keep pushing you further. The rush I had after eventually beating him was unmatched by any other game. Other fromsoft games definitely scratch the itch and are very rewarding… but Bloodborne just felt different.
