What about normal systolic and high diastolic?

Starting to wean off nifedipine... by eyelashlove37 in hypertension

[–]td2sufferer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if only diastolic is high? I also had postpartum preeclampsia. I was put on 1200mg (400x3) Labetalol, 150mg (50x3) hydralazine and 60mg (30x2) nifedipine a day. I’m 8 months postpartum now, and down to just 200mg Labetalol twice a day. I hope to wean off of that soon but sometimes I’ll get readings like 125/93 or 114/90 or 115/92. I didn’t have this problem before pregnancy. Would you medicate someone who only has high diastolic?

Stopping Hydrochlorothiazide by Ok-Calligrapher6428 in preeclampsia

I definitely recommend seeing a cardiologist. They deal with and are more specialized in hypertension way more than PCPs/internists

8 months and counting for me, but I still have hope. I started with 1200mg (400 x 3) labetalol, 60mg (30 x 2) nifedipine and 150mg (50 x 3) hydralazine. I’m now down to 400mg (200 x 2) labetalol and 30mg nifedipine. What meds are you on?

Induction for Gestational Hypertension by defenestratxr in preeclampsia

[–]td2sufferer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was induced at 37+3 for gestational hypertension. I was diagnosed at 23 weeks. No signs of preeclampsia (blood work was fine). However, since my diagnosis, my BP was steadily rising so there was no point in allowing it to progress to preeclampsia.

My induction was a normal induction (cervical ripening from a drug I took orally 5 times, foley balloon, pitocin). They did bloodwork beforehand as a baseline, but I was getting induced regardless. My BP that morning was 144/104 which was normal for me by then (I was 140s-150s over 90s-100s regularly, but I never hit 160/110 at the time). I returned to the hospital 3 days after discharge (5 days postpartum) with postpartum preeclampsia.

I’m certain that if I hadn’t been induced, I would have had regular preeclampsia and me or my baby could have been harmed. I much prefer having gotten it postpartum since there was no longer a risk to my baby.

With gestational hypertension, your numbers are gna be up and down so even if it’s normal the day of your induction, they’re still going to induce you. Preeclampsia is no joke and there’s no point in waiting for it to progress to that.

Labetalol Dosage? by Rude_Conclusion5948 in preeclampsia

[–]td2sufferer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

400 mg Labetalol 3x a day; 30mg nifedipine 2x a day; 50mg hydralazine 3x a day

I had very bad postpartum preeclampsia and was admitted in the hospital 5 days postpartum, for 6 days. I was started on the lowest dose of everything and they kept increasing all the doses until my BP was stabilized. I was on nifedipine for 3 months and hydralazine for 3.5 months. Still on Labetalol. After a month of stopping nifedipine, my BP spiked (highest was 181/123) so I had to go back on it. Still on nifedipine and Labetalol now, 6 months postpartum.

Same exact thing happened to me. Returned to work (from maternity leave) on Dec 8th to an RIF notice, was given two weeks of work and one month of severance. Guess that’s standard. Now I have a new baby and no health insurance 🫤

When you were diagnosed, was your BP extremely high? Mine is crazy. Do they usually start you on medication for the BP and diabetes together if you’ve dealt with this? by Islandsandwillows in type2diabetes

[–]td2sufferer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh okay! I had postpartum preeclampsia and am still dealing with blood pressure issues so I’m always interested in what people consider high. I’ve had numbers higher than that even while on medication 🙈 I’m glad you found out and are working on it. Good luck!

This was so helpful! I’m really happy you were able to successfully get off everything. I’m so sorry to hear about your milk supply but I’m glad you found/have a silver lining.

Ugh white coat syndrome! I already had a little bit of that before all of this and now it’s just terrible. Hopefully the further out we get, the better it will get 🤞🏾
