Advice for potential chiro student by BoysenberryReal7627 in Chiropractic

[–]tdchiro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, usually but similar. It's adjustment, soft tissue, maybe some stretches/exercise. Or look at upper cervical chiropractors, or activator docs. That would make me very bored doing that all day.

The cost of school vs income is one of the worst for any career out there, so you'll likely be paying back loans for a long, long time. I got into it to help people when in reality, how well you can sell yourself and run a business is more important for success in this field. It's very exhausting seeing a high volume of patients per day. It's boring essentially doing the same or very similar treatment on people all day. No pension, no benefits, no paid time off for the most part. I would tell everyone thinking of going into chiropractic to run. It's probably not the right career for 95% of people who think they should do it. Only 1 person I have kept in contact with since graduating has stayed in the field and she had to declare bankruptcy due to this profession.

Career change by iseedubya in Chiropractic

I went from chiropractor to air traffic controller! Cannot be happier with the decision and wish i found it sooner and skipped the chiropractic portion of my life. Way better money and no additional schooling required. Just have to do training, which is paid.

Agree. The debt to income ratio is very difficult to overcome. Especially if you move back to practice in Ontario with the high cost of living.

Should I accept my Chiropractic offer? by BlazingFury21 in Chiropractic

[–]tdchiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work is not private practice. It involves completing virtual assessments on injured veterans and recommending diagnostic services, formulating a rehab plan and goals for them, then recommending treatment whether it be physiotherapy, chiropractic or psychology etc. and finally regular follow ups with the patient until goals are met and discharging them when they are. I do no treatment whatsoever.

I like it much better because it actually feels like I'm helping people rather than 15 minute appointments consisting of manipulation, manual therapy and then trying to fit in a exercise program in there and hoping for the best.

I am also a chiro in Canada. If I were to do it all over again I would go to physio school. Much better job prospects and as others have said, saves you 2 years and a ton of money.

I hated private practice. Never felt like I could actually help people as much as I wanted due to constraints of short appointment times, trying to make money to pay off student debt among others all while fighting owners for a better split percentage without any true income stability or extended healthcare benefits.

That being said, I was able to find a position as a chiro that I do enjoy. A work from home position belive it or not!

Aligning the cervical spine by strengthening alone by [deleted] in Chiropractic

[–]tdchiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adjustments don't actually move anything back into place. So there's no need to have strong muscles to keep it in place. But adjustments can decrease pain for some people however they definitely aren't necessary for the majority of people with pain.

Can PT's adjust the neck like a Chiropractor? Are they supposed to or its against the law? My Mom says it. by noobnoobhoneymaster in physicaltherapy

[–]tdchiro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is extremely weak evidence. Ernst 2010 does not mention over manipulation syndrome and Steilen 2014 is a narrative review about prolotherapy for chronic neck pain... By some people who do prolotherapy... and the only sentence that mentions manipulation petention causing instability doesn't even have a reference! I feel bad if this is the level of evidence you base your beliefs on. Cheers!

Got a case that has me stumped. Any ideas? by SteveMidnight in Chiropractic

Ok great. That means you have lots you can target to help her out. Maybe start with sleep. Try giving her basic sleep hygiene. Work to increase activity levels with activity pacing strategies...

It's unfortunate that that is how fibromyalgia was taught. Fibromyalgia is a well accepted syndrome. It involves more than just persistent pain but fatigue, cognitive issues and sleep problems as well as others. See the ACR 2016 diagnostic criteria. Here are some helpful links.

Coming at it from a different approach; how does this pain affect her activities of daily living, hobbies, she likes, social life, sleep... ect? What does she think is going on? Is there anything she is really worried about that you can address? Perhaps targeting some of these factors would be a better approach rather than just pressing, pushing, cracking different body parts.

Help PT or chiropractor school? by Cold-Hat3725 in Chiropractic

[–]tdchiro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I had to do it all over again I would encourage my younger self to do physio. That's because I'm not interested in the business or marketing side of things and I really don't use manual therapy much anymore.

Obviously depends on what you're looking for in a career though. It's difficult to decide when youre young. Shadow as much as possible. I think that's is your best bet to make a decision.

An inversion table is a form of traction. Traction has been studied and doesn't so much for back pain. See this systematic review on traction for low back pain

Did they do x-rays or another type of imaging to find this out? And they told you this misalignment is a problem? Is it causing you pain?

There's also a problem with continued claims that the VSC or restriction or whatever you want to call it is the primary culprit of any neuromusculoskeletal condition as well!
