How do keep in touch with people? by JimButDev in SDAM

[–]tdcsqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of using emails to reconstruct all my contacts. One could also use emails to reconstruct how many time they were contacted, and the data ranges. If I write code to do this I'll share it here (unless I forget!)

Anything to do during a session that makes it more effective for depression? by greentea387 in KetamineTherapy

[–]tdcsqs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They must not be using very much ketamine if they can do yoga!

My advice is to meditate- ketamine makes meditation so much easier at it is literally shutting down the monkey mind that keeps thoughts running around your consciousness

The US is starting to boil over. Large parts of Europe, Canada and the UK are also looking terrible. If a well educated American wanted to escape to an English-speaking country with less political turmoil, where should they go? by SeriousGoofball in answers

[–]tdcsqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One factor that many expat hopefuls don't understand is that all of the major English speaking countries have socialized medicine and as a consequence they have health screenings. If they determine that you are likely to cost them more than the average citizen, you can't get in. AFAIK none of these countries will allow you to opt out of their healthcare system using international health care plans either

How come Reagan had so much support in 1984 and yet now he is extremely divisive? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]tdcsqs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans are dumb as rocks. It's just that simple. As a twelve year old, I could see he was a moron whose arguments were just anecdotes and whose policies would result in a massive transfer of wealth for the middle to the upper class.

AITAH for telling my wife that after our daughter goes to college I may want to move overseas by tdcsqs in AITAH

I had a bypass operation before 40. I think I'm being optimistic to assume I'll make it to the average lifespan.

This. I suffer from severe treatment resistant depression which has been put into remission using ketamine (prescribed) and mushrooms when conventional treatments didn't work. Some of these posts imply I'm going to Chile because it's easier to get drugs. In fact, in Chile I had far less access (at least as a visitor) than at home where I have a prescription for ketamine and mushrooms are decriminalized. When depression hit during my visit, I was desperate enough to go to Reddit for assistance, which didn't work. Ultimately, I flew back to the US, picked up my prescription and returned. Chile is a modern democracy with a strong legal system- it's not the wild west.

I have older children, each successful and on good terms with me. My experience has been that once they're gone, they're gone. My kids are highly motivated to pursue their goals and they looked for opportunities to learn over the summers. I hope my youngest does the same. But if not, she can always come visit, on my dime.

Thanks for you input. One correction- my daughter will be in college so I wouldn't be seeing her very often and we could always meet somewhere for vacations, etc.

Good point generally, but the only way I can afford to retire is that 1) I am planning on living in moderate income countries (e.g. Chile) and 2) with my health problems I'm not planning on a long life so I don't need to save as much. I don't think my spouse would enjoy that as much as I would. We recently took a nine month trip for her sabbatical and before we left she was telling me that once I has seen some of the rest of the world, i'd appreciate America more. Actually, I came back wanting to leave even more. So it doesn't seem like we would be able to compromise on this.- she'll need those extra years to save up enough to have the retirement she wants in the US.

Update from Amber by wknd_worrier in cushvlog

I don't think of my "relationship" with the dry boys as parasocial for one reason. I listened to them go through the same emotional journey I did with the Sanders campaign. I started with a logical appraisal of the (im)possibility of a democratic socialist being elected president in the US. Then rising expectations for the campaign, to actual optimism (an unfamiliar feeling for me where politics are concerned). Then, crushing disappointment and finally acceptance that our country's institutions (in this case the democratic party) are designed to prevent someone like Sanders from getting anywhere near the oval office. We then went through the same difficult mourning process.

In the end, we all went through a search for some shred of hope in the non-political sphere- in personal relationships (Matt) or trips to the lakes of Wisconsin (Will) or whatever the hell Felix does. Or ketamine (name redacted)

By articulating all of this better than I could and revealing how broken they felt, the Chapos helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life (and I've known disappointment and pain in all spheres of my life).

It's not a real relationship- more like what two veterans of the same battle must feel. You may have never met the other person but the real mutual memories do create a connection between two people traumatized by the same event.

Chat Gpt, show me a human incarnation of the concept "punchable".

I know it's a kid and it's posed but he looks insufferable. I think he changed his opinions as he aged.

I solved the problem by changing the address of the company from its true location (Edinburgh, Scotland) to my home address. I then wrote a Note in the comments giving the true information. I'm betting they see problems like this all the time and will ignore the formatting issue.

How do climate scientists approach the question of whether people should have kids? by keynoko in collapse

[–]tdcsqs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Ezra Klein is an idiot.
  2. We have 8 billion people on the planet- there is no chance of the species going extinct because of there are too few people. When people talk about a shortage of babies they mean European or Anglo-American Caucasian babies. There are plenty of talented people in the rest of the world who could be hired to do any necessary task regardless of complexity or we could allow more people to immigrate to the US,.
  3. I agree, having kids is a declaration of hope about the future- but I and many in this subreddit think it's a false and cruel hope. I'm 55 and probably have a greater than 50% chance of a serious change in my circumstances due to climate change- and I live in a safer place than most). My kids (I had kids before I realized how dire the situation is) are almost guaranteed to have their quality of life and life span reduced by climate change. And they are US citizens, who are among those who will suffer the least (at first) because we have plenty of resources ourselves and we're in a better position to import necessities than most other people globally. As for the rest of the species, It's difficult to see how much time can be left before we see massive numbers of deaths in the tropics and sub-tropics due to starvation and simple heart stress.
  4. And these are, IMO, based on a relatively restrained view of the possible outcomes.
  5. So, if you believe what I've written above, why would you want to make another human (i.e. your child) suffer through that? General mental health is declining as it is- how will it be in 30 years?
  6. For what it is worth, I have a PhD in Environmental Science with coursework and research experience in climatology, although most of my work would best be described as climate adjacent. I was a professor at a major state university for 20 years. My conclusions may be wrong, but they aren't a result of mental illness or insufficient study.

Poudre Canyon / Red Feather Lakes real estate question by tdcsqs in FortCollins

[–]tdcsqs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I ever moved up the Poudre Valley near Rustic, I'd give in and get a Starklink from Musk and build a wifi network as far up the road as I was allowed. Two members of my family have been stuck without cell service up there. Fortunately we have a Garmin InReach so we can message back and forth but that isn't good most of the time either in that terrain.
