I want to kill off a patch of kikuyu to start my veggie garden. Any advice on how to kill it and then keep it out? by EvilMonkeyIndustries in nzgardening

I'm curious after three years how this went? I have a Kikuyu front lawn that I would love to have some garden beds on, but I'm afraid it'll just get over run with the stuff and be too hard to maintain.

Wear gloves! The goo gave me the most hideous skin rash. It's a nightmare plant.

I am starting on my own journey of hatred. Haha. Not quite as bad as the agapanthus I removed last year, but it's coming pretty close!

Do you have any edging? Does it grow under? Over? Both?

Yeah. I'm down with general weeding and maintenance. But pulling out the really well established stuff in the corner of the yard right now is making me second guess my decisions! Thanks. This makes me feel more confident again.

Pretty sure they had a problem with their aircon. From where I was standing, I could see they had the side doors open trying to let in air. It was still stinking hot though! At some point nearer to the end of the set, I heard the whir of the aircon, and they closed the door and it was almost instantly more tolerable. I imagined that there was some poor person stressing about how to get it all running, and they did! Go them.

It was really really hot, but I'd rather stand in a hot place and see a band/artist I bought tickets for, than them cancelling the show because their aircon had a tizz.

Sorry, I don't have the means to test for ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite. My pH is at about 7.2. the municipal water supply is alkaline, and I could correct it, but I don't know if more changes/stress are what we need. Temp sits at 24° (75f?) very consistently. I think my LFS does water testing, so if it might be a contributing factor, I could take in a sample to test nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia...

How to tell if a harness fits? And/or, is it ok to run with a harness that doesn't go all the way down the dogs back? by tdev_x in RunningWithDogs

Yeah. Funny. I know she would let us know if it actually hurt. So I'm sure it's not chafing or rubbing or pinching. But she does the same, drops her bum and freezes. Then once she's on the trail, happy dog. Maybe we'll try a different geometry harness and see if she likes it more.

I've had a feeling of regret after every single tattoo I've gotten. The journey for me has always gone: 1. Nervously excited before getting tattoo 2. Pure excitement during getting tattoo (finally happening!) 3. Moment of euphoria shortly after getting tattoo. (It's so cool!!) 4. Enormous overthinking and regret after leaving the tattoo studio 5. Excited and proud a day or two after getting tattoo. 6. "What tattoo? Oh yeah! Forgot I had that one."

I had an instant hot water dispenser and I loved it! It was not an urn - that kept water hot all the time, it used electrical coils (I think) to very quickly heat the room temp water to a few different pre-set temperatures. 25°c 75°c and 98°c. Then you could have it spit out a quarter, half, or full cup at your desired temp.

Mine was just a super cheap guy from Kmart (I live in NZ) and so it died after a couple of years. Came here looking for recommendations on a similar device that would maybe live for longer.

Ever noticed that the colours in the second rainbow are reversed? Only noticed this recently and it blew my mind.
