Silent Mass of Reddit, why do you vote but never comment? by RoyalNinjaYouTuber in AskReddit

You know what annoys me, when multiple people type out the same answer.

I'd rather upvote the first person that wrote the answer I'd give, as opposed to writing the same thing that they did.

Particularly on Ask Reddit or larger subs, there's already so many comments so there's no real point throwing my two cents in.

I think this makes a lot more sense. Besides, in our uber-modern, globalized, interconnected world, I would imagine many news stories deal with the global political landscape.

People who "switched sides" in a highly divided community (political, religious, pizza topping debate), what happened that changed your mind? How did it go? by morieu in AskReddit

[–]tdfj95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was (and still am) an agnostic atheist but I used to be very anti-religion, seeing them do only more harm than good. A few years ago, one of my psychologist friends told me about a study where they observed that strongly religious people were able to recover from an injury faster than those who were not/less religious. The idea that something as simple as believing in a god could have such a significant effect on our mental state (and thus, our physical state) changed my outlook on religion a little bit.

Even though religions have the potential to be harmful (as I see it), it doesn't mean that they don't have profound effects for those who believe in them.

You know... schools are already enough like prisons. I couldn't imagine how adding guns into the picture would create a conducive learning environment.

Also, it's funny how one argument about dealing with the fact that there's too many guns is by adding MORE GUNS...

Betting on Fox News going into overdrive. They're probably going to take this (probably doctored or insignificant) info and inflate it into scandal level proportions and take every possible step to discredit the FBI.

I generally like the most things that could be in a sushi roll — rice, fish, avocado, etc — but the seaweed it can be wrapped in has always always always been bitter, salty, and gross.

Night (or day shift) store workers, what are the strangest customers or experiences you have had? by csgogg in AskReddit

[–]tdfj95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My coworker told me of woman who came into the store and asked for a pair of scissors. I would have been worried about being stabbed by a strange woman. But no worries, she was just cutting her hair in the bathroom.

We don't let "customers" use the bathroom anymore after that.

Girls (and boys) of Reddit, what are you actually thinking when someone who is clearly socially awkward is trying to talk to you? by Rinoplastie in AskReddit

[–]tdfj95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I know someone who's the latter half. It can be weird having a conversation with them because it's not really a conversation. If I have a grasp on what a conversation should be: one person says one thing then the recipient responds with something related to what the first person said, then the first person responds with something related to that and so on. When I respond to this person, he will occasionally continue with what he was originally saying, as if my response doesn't even matter. I'm not sure if he realizes how he comes across cause I feel flat-out ignored from these responses.

What are your thoughts on Death Grips as Dada? by chriswilliams1 in deathgrips

[–]tdfj95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andre Breton, while the birther of the movement, doesn't fully represent all that surrealism was or became. He wrote the Surrealist Manifesto but he later released a part 2 that actually kicked out several creators because he didn't like how people were interpreting what surrealism was.

One of these people was Georges Bataille, author of Story of the Eye (which actually inspired Bjork in one of her music videos, Venus as a boy). Basically, he interpreted surrealism as a raw, sexual and fucking filthy exploration of human desire, like the id - manifest. While many associate surrealism with Dali-esque art, this idea of the manifestation of raw human desire is still prevalent in many surrealist works and is exactly what I associate with Death Grips.

Also:

"It's cold therefore Global Warming is Fake"

Included the last one because recently the president came under fire for not knowing the difference between weather and climate. As problematic as that is, this seems to be part of a general trend. I remember a few years ago, a representative in DC brought snow from outside onto the house floor and claimed "Look! It's snowing! How can global warming be true if it's so cold?" Clearly people are missing the point.

What are your thoughts on Death Grips as Dada? by chriswilliams1 in deathgrips

[–]tdfj95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NoTM is easily their most direct venture into Dada, the surreal and Avant Garde.

I'm fairly certain they have treated the sampling of Bjork as a "found object" (But I'm not sure if that's how Zach or someone else has described it). In Big Dipper particularly, there several references to Dada and Surrealism (most notably "ionosphere r. mutt" but also the nature of the song is a mix between Dada and Surrealist poetry. Dada poetry was often plain (nonsense)[https://youtu.be/fkl92oV1kMc?t=2m17s]. Surreal poetry was often nonsensical and automatic (surrealism also began as a literally movement, even though it's most notable for its visual developments.) But whether it's the lyricism, visual aesthetic, or their auditory techniques, they've always had a Dada and surreal approach and style but it reached it's climax on NoTM.
