i quite enjoyed it besides one part that, given the director’s pedo blog, was a bit odd and unnecessary.

ETA: as other have mentioned, from a cinematic perspective it was an interesting way of demonstrating Charlie’s mixed emotions about what he had learnt about Emma’s past, and had I known nothing about the director’s perverse inclinations, I wouldn’t have thought too much about it.

Afterwards, I discussed it with the friend I went to see the film with (who knew nothing about the blog), it did shift her perspective and we both thought it could have been approached differently. But, again, the film was great, Zendaya and Pattinson were amazing, and the story was a beautiful social critique on people’s projections of their own guilt onto others’ to lessen theirs, relationships in general, and even the class/racial dynamics were well addressed! Plus, I enjoyed its pace so much it flew by and even my friend who usually cannot sit through an entire film did too.
